Chapter Text
The hour before inauguration had always been tense. Even during Mori's ascension as the boss after the old boss was dead was tense, despite the fact that most of the members of mafia only knowing of the old boss' death being caused by his illness instead of the dark truth that Mori had assassinated him. Everyone knew of what surrounded Dazai's ascension as the boss, so no one was really surprised by how tense the atmosphere was.
Yet no one had been more tense than Dazai, whom despite wore a mask of confidence and calmness in front of everyone, couldn't fool Chuuya who had known him the longest out of everyone. It was his eyes, or eye now since Dazai had taken up on bandaging his right eye again, that reflected Dazai's innermost emotion. Even when you know what to look for, it was still hard to decipher what Dazai was really feeling unless you were Chuuya.
"Dazai, you'll be fine." Chuuya nudged him with an elbow, smirking at his boyfriend and new boss. “And if you fuck up, you have me to help! And if we both fuck up, I’m sure ane-san would help us too.” He nodded his head towards Kouyou who was directing a few of her girls for last minute preparation. Kouyou seemed to hear what Chuuya had just said and shot them both a disapproving stare, as if saying that the two of them better not fuck up.
“Ane-san seems like she’d gut us if we do fuck up.” Dazai replied with a weak snicker.
“Well, we better don’t, then.” And Chuuya really hoped that they did not. This was their second chance after all, he wanted it to be better than their first. He wanted the both of them to survive together this time around, instead dying in the other’s arms like Chuuya had in the past. Chuuya did not want to imagine if it had been the other way around and Dazai was the one dying in Chuuya’s arms.
Dazai nodded, his expression completely serious. Dazai had been the one to sacrifice the most in order for a better world, in order for Odasaku to live and the Akutagawa siblings to have a life outside the mafia. And Chuuya too, but Chuuya was never good in being separated from Dazai, no matter how much he pretended like he did not like the other’s presence around him in the past.
“... Chuuya.” Dazai called out. Chuuya glanced towards the brunet, raising an eyebrow. Dazai did not turn to face him. “Are… are you really sure? About this whole thing? About leaving school, your family… about leaving your chance in living a normal life?” Chuuya held the urge to sigh. It had been about two weeks since Dazai had first ask that question upon waking up from his short comatose, and it seemed that Chuuya’s answer then hadn’t quite been drilled into Dazai’s head.
“You dumbass.” Chuuya teased fondly. “I told you that I don’t mind, that I want to be by your side. Even if I did not regain my memories of the past timeline, I doubt that I’d leave you alone.” The redhead turned his gaze away from Dazai, watching many of the mafia members running left and right just to make sure that the inauguration would go without a hitch. “I’ve told you that I’ve never felt like I belong in school, right? It’s true even now. Yeah, sure, I had friends I got along with. Sure, I was pretty popular between my peers, but that did not mean that I fit in.” Chuuya gestured to himself, speaking in a wry tone. “And my parents had given me their blessings, and it’s not like I won’t visit them every once in a while. It’s fine.”
Dazai still looked like he couldn’t quite accept the answer, but Chuuya knew that Dazai would give in soon. And as self sacrificing as the bastard was, Dazai was equally a selfish man. Chuuya knew that most part of Dazai was glad and relieved that he had Chuuya by his side in his journey as the new boss of the Port Mafia.
“And what about you? You could have left the mafia and joined the agency all those years ago. Why didn’t you?” Chuuya questioned back. He figured that it was a fair trade, something that Dazai wouldn’t be able to deny. Even to Chuuya who was his partner, Dazai was still pretty closed off when it came to himself, so an opportunity like this wasn’t something Chuuya would ever just turn down.
Dazai shrugged. “Well, I couldn’t just let Mori stay on top of the food chain. He’ll get his hands on you sooner or later if I don’t interfere. I wasn’t going to let him lay a hand on you. The last time he did, he ordered you to your death, remember?” Chuuya was reminded of his last moments. It was true. Mori had ordered Chuuya to use Corruption against the Decay of Angels while Dazai was too far away to make it in time to stop him. Chuuya did not blame Mori, but he guessed Dazai did.
Not that it mattered much anymore. Mori Ougai was dead, after all.
“The plan was always to kill him. After that, well… Kouyou has never shown any desire to lead the mafia. My initial plan was for you to join the agency, so you can’t be the mafia boss like you were trained to be in our past timeline. And, well…” Dazai sighed, running a hand through his brown locks. “Since the old boss was my father,” he spat the words venomously, “My ascension as the new boss was the most logical, so here we are. Plus, if I become the boss, I could protect the agency from the darkness.”
Chuuya had known that the old boss was Dazai’s father, of course, but Dazai had so rarely brought it up that sometimes the mention of it still surprised him quite a bit. He made no comment on that, instead choosing to focus on the latter part of Dazai’s initial plan. “Self sacrificing bandaged idiot.”
“You love me.”
“Surprisingly, yeah.”
“Aww, Chuuya, I love you too!”
Dazai had rarely said the words in the past timeline. No, in fact, the only time Chuuya had recalled Dazai ever saying those words was on the moment of his death. This time though, Dazai had said those three words more often, not wanting to make the same mistake as he did in the past.
It had caused a small, fond smile to bloom on Chuuya’s face.
Dazai might be the new boss of the ruthless Port Mafia, but he was just a giant dork underneath it all.
He felt fingers reaching out to his and intertwining their hands together. Chuuya casted an amused glance towards Dazai, but the other man was looking at him with a serious expression. “I really do, you know? I love you.”
Chuuya chuckled and leaned forwards, locking their lips together in a chaste kiss, before pulling away slightly, their lips barely touching. “I love you too, Dazai.” He murmured quietly, words that he only wanted Dazai to hear at this moment. He saw Dazai smiled contently as he leaned down to kiss Chuuya again. Chuuya kissed him back, before pulling away. “Now, let’s focus on the inauguration. It wouldn’t be good impression if the boss makes his entrance to the inauguration while looking dishevelled, would it?”
“Indeed, it wouldn’t!” The two young men turned around to see Kouyou staring sharply at the both of them, arms folded in front of her chest disapprovingly. “You two can continue flirting after the inauguration, understand? The inauguration is starting soon. Make sure you two look presentable!”
“Yes, ane-san.” The two said in unison, making sure that the other looked, in Kouyou’s word, presentable.
Chuuya quietly snorted seeing Dazai’s slightly crooked tie and went to fix it immediately. He was sure that Dazai had purposefully did that just so that Chuuya would fix it for him. The smirk Dazai sent his way while Chuuya was fixing his tie was proof enough.
“I told you two to stop flirting—”
“We’re not!”
“Sure.” It seemed that Kouyou, even without her memories of the past, had managed to read them quite well. That, or their flirting was just that obvious.
Finishing fixing Dazai’s tie, Chuuya pulled away and moved to stan on Dazai’s right side, one step behind. Chuuya was to be Dazai’s right hand man, after all, and he would show that to the Port Mafia as a whole. No one else would stand by Dazai’s side but him.
That, Chuuya swore.
Dazai’s inauguration had gone as tense as expected, but there was an underlying sense of excitement within the Port Mafia, all of its members anticipating a new age under Dazai. There had never been a question as to who would lead them next, after all. The question was just when that would be, and none of them had guessed that it would be this soon, thus the tension. Yet, they all knew that Dazai would bring them to a better age.
Dazai and Chuuya went home to their new, shared apartment, a little bit exhausted after the gala that was held after the inauguration. Both Dazai and Chuuya were great during social functions, but it didn’t mean that having to wear a mask and dealing with various kinds of people, both intelligent ones and idiots, good and bad people, wasn’t tiring for the both of them.
The safety behind their door was something that the two loved. Behind closed door, they could let go of the mask and just be themselves. They weren’t Dazai Osamu, the new mafia boss, and Nakahara Chuuya, the new boss’ right hand man, anymore. They were just Dazai and Chuuya.
As soon as the door closed, Chuuya had quickly pinned Dazai’s back to the door, pulling Dazai down by his tie to crush their lips together, hands grasping on the back of Dazai’s head, curled between his brown locks, as the kiss turned heated. They had shared kisses like this in the two weeks since Chuuya remembered, but the novelty of these kisses had yet to disappear, and Chuuya doubted it ever will.
Dazai’s right hand cupped Chuuya’s chin, tilting Chuuya’s head up so that Dazai could deepen the kiss while his other hand snaked behind Chuuya’s waist, pulling him closer. Chuuya’s neck was strained, damn the bastard for being so tall, but Chuuya did not really mind the strain. A bed would be really nice right now, though.
With that in mind, Chuuya trailed down his hand, tugging on Dazai’s collar. Breaking off the kiss, he said between hard breaths, “Bed.”
It had taken nothing for Dazai to agree and the two hastily made their way towards their bedroom, Chuuya plopping into the bed and Dazai crawling on top of him, throwing away his coat, suit, and tie to the floor. Chuuya had done the same, taking off his suit and unbuckling his harness and setting it aside without care. As soon as the harness was gone, Dazai had thrown himself towards Chuuya, pulling him into another rough kiss, teeth and all.
Dazai’s hand worked their way to Chuuya’s shirt, unbuttoning them hastily. Chuuya, not wanting to be the only one with his clothes off, did the same with Dazai’s own shirt, though he was doing it a bit more roughly compared to Dazai. Chuuya did not care if he popped a button or two on Dazai’s shirt, he could just sew them back later.
Quickly shrugging off his shirt, Chuuya flipped their position, now he was straddling Dazai. He grinded his hips against Dazai, his own cock already half hard inside its confine. He unbuckled Dazai’s belt and threw it away, then slid down Dazai’s body, leaning down towards Dazai’s zipper. He pulled down his boss’ zipper with his teeth slowly, almost teasingly. He could see Dazai’s body faintly trembling. Anyone else wouldn’t notice, but Chuuya knew Dazai’s body as much as his own.
Once the pants were unzipped, he tugged the pants and boxer down together, freeing Dazai’s half hard cock. The tiny sound of Dazai’s breath hitching was music to Chuuya’s ears. The redhead grinned amusedly at Dazai, before he brought his right hand to his lips, biting on the tip of his glove and pulling it slowly from his hand. Dazai had always loved a show from Chuuya.
“Chuuya… hurry up.” Dazai was pretty demanding when he was in bed, but he the plea in his demand could be heard as clear as day. Chuuya chuckled and took Dazai’s cock with his now bare hand, slowly stroking it up and down, building up in pace. Occasionally, he’d tease the slit leaking precum with his thumb. Dazai’s breath had gone from steady to slightly shaky now. Well, Chuuya knew of a way to make Dazai lose control of his breathing.
Chuuya leaned down once more and gave an experimental lick on the head of Dazai’s cock. Dazai did not gasp, nor did he moan, but the way his body stiffened and then shivered in pleasure excited Chuuya. Chuuya opened his mouth and slowly took in Dazai. Soon enough, Chuuya was bobbing his head up and down Dazai’s cock, licking it like he was eating a lollipop, tasting every inch of Dazai’s skin.
Dazai had never had good enough control when it came to blowjobs— at least when it was Chuuya who was giving it. Soon enough, Dazai was thrusting into Chuuya’s mouth, chasing his release. “Ch-Chuuya—”
But no, there was no way Chuuya was going to let Dazai cum now. No, when Dazai cum, he was going to do it inside Chuuya.
He parted away from Dazai’s dick. Ignoring Dazai’s whine, he went to the bedside desk and took out the lube and condom. He threw the condom to Dazai, while squirting the lube to his own hand. He watched Dazai put on the condom, while he himself was putting a show for Dazai. After taking off his own pants and boxers, while on his knees, still above Dazai, Chuuya started to finger himself open. He thrusted one lubed finger in, and then two, and started stretching himself, alternating between thrusting and scissoring motion. Once he started to get used to it, he added another finger.
Eyeing Dazai, he could see Dazai trying to control himself, to restrain himself from jumping at Chuuya, flipping their position again and just ram into Chuuya. Chuuya smirked and reached for the lube, squeezing the content out again, and started lubing Dazai’s cock, purposefully making sure to drag his fingers slowly up and down to agitate Dazai.
“Chuuya… you’re going to regret this.” Dazai’s voice was barely above a whisper as he eyed his own cock, then moving to Chuuya’s hand that was still inside the redhead. The redhead laughed as he pulled out his fingers. He straddled Dazai once more, hips hanging above. Chuuya guided Dazai’s cock to his entrance, then slowly sunk himself down. He winced a little at the burn the intrusion caused, but waved it off. Soon enough, Dazai was almost buried to the hilt.
For a moment, all that filled the room was the sound of Chuuya’s and Dazai’s panting. Then, Chuuya raised his hips again, pulling out until all that was left in him was the head of Dazai’s cock, before slamming down again, a moan escaping his own lips. He repeated the move once more, and then again, and again, building up a pace. Dazai met each of Chuuya’s thrust with his own, bucking his hips up, pistoning into Chuuya as he tried to find the spot that would make Chuuya lose his mind. Dazai’s hands were on Chuuya’s hips, helping Chuuya find the perfect angle.
Another thrust drew a particularly loud, erotic moan from Chuuya. He found it.
It was all it took for Dazai to lose control and flipped their position over, and started thrusting into him with an erratic pace, yet somehow still managing to almost constantly hit Chuuya’s prostate dead on. Chuuya was clinging onto Dazai, fingernails digging onto Dazai’s back and his back arching with every thrust. There were probably all kind of scratch marks on Dazai’s back right now, but Dazai did not seem to mind.
Murmuring Chuuya’s name over and over, Dazai leaned down and sought the skin where Chuuya’s neck and shoulder met, and promptly bit it, not hard enough to draw blood, but enough to leave a mark that wouldn’t disappear so soon. Chuuya was his. His partner. His to love.
Chuuya seemed to lose all rational senses, only managing to repeat Dazai’s name over and over again in between his sobs. The redhead’s lips seeked his own as soon as Dazai pulled away from the purpling mark, capturing Dazai’s lips in a desperate kiss. He was coming soon, Dazai realized with how Chuuya’s walls were clamping around Dazai’s cock. Dazai had to admit that he was near as well.
“Dazai, Dazai, Dazai— I love you, fuck, I love you so much—” Chuuya’s desperate chanting was a music to Dazai’s ears, words that he did not think he’d ever hear from Chuuya just two weeks ago spilling out from the redhead’s swollen red lips. “Dazai, Dazai—”
“Chuuya, Chuuya—” Dazai found himself chanting in the same, desperate tone. For years, he had thought that he’d never be able to be with Chuuya again. He thought that he wasn’t going to be able to be by Chuuya’s side, in his arms, or anything like this. He had thought that he would only be able to see Chuuya from afar, keeping him safe from a distance. Yet, he was wrong, and somehow, Chuuya found his way back to Dazai, and they were together again. There was no way Dazai was going to let him go now. “Chuuya, I love you. Fuck, I love you.” Dazai was never a sincere person, but to Chuuya, for Chuuya, he found it easy to be one.
“Dazai!” Chuuya came with a cry of Dazai’s name spilling out of his lips, and Dazai followed soon after, whispering Chuuya’s own name.
Dazai slid out of Chuuya, unrolling the condom off and throwing it to the side. He’d pick it up and throw it in the trash can later, but for now, all he wanted was to lie by Chuuya’s side, holding him close. Chuuya seemed to have thought the same, seeing as he quickly gotten hold of Dazai’s wrist.
Dazai smiled and kissed Chuuya’s lips once more. “I love you” He said. Dazai had only ever said those words once in the past, and by then, it was too late. This time though, he had a second chance to do it right. He’d repeat these words over and over again for Chuuya to hear, even when the redhead had gotten bored on hearing them. He had years of catching up when it came to saying those words.
“I love you too.” Chuuya replied, smiling fondly. “God knows fucking why, but I love you.”
“It’s because I’m awesome.” Dazai teased.
“Nah, it’s the other way around. I’m the one who’s awesome.” Chuuya shot back with a grin.
Dazai stuck his tongue out, and Chuuya retorted with the same childishness.
Neither of them spoke of how Chuuya’s hand had let go of Dazai’s wrist, instead making its way to interlace their fingers together. They didn’t need to.
They were together again, and this time, they would make sure no one could separate them. They would stay by each other’s side from now on, and maybe, they’d find a better ending to their story this time around.
Sometimes, a story ended in a tragedy, but endings could always be changed, and if they were determined enough, they know they could.
They were, after all, Double Black.
