Chapter 1: Chapter 1

Chapter Text

I’ve never been able to express my emotions as greatly as everybody else.

So when I met Kakeru in elementary, it was like seeing a whole different type of speciey. Every second he had a new facial expression. And every time you looked at him you could immediately tell what he was feeling in the moment.

Maybe that’s why it was so easy for me to fall in love with him. I never had to guess what he was thinking. Which made it even more heartbreaking to know he doesn't think about me the way I think about him.
                                ⋆˚꩜。

Lately something weird has been happening. I randomly start coughing badly. My throat feels like it’s clogged and I can’t breathe normally.

I thought it was just a cold or something, and that I would get over it quickly. But last week, the coughing became worse. So bad to the point where I had to go to the restroom since I was making too much noise in the classroom.

On my way to the restroom, people walking past me stared at me. I’m used to all the stares and whispers. But it was different this time. The girls didn’t start whispering to their friends. And the guys didn’t scowl at me. They just looked at me with concerned faces and turned their head away from me.

Once I reached the restroom I looked in the mirror and was met with a face I couldn’t even recognize. My lips were chapped and I looked so pale I wouldn’t be surprised if everyone in the hallway thought I was a ghost.

The only color visible on my face was the dripping of the blood from my mouth.

A metallic taste in my mouth I didn't even know was there was finally noticeable.

I looked down at the sink to avert my eyes from the eerie sight in the mirror. I moved my hands to quickly turn the faucet on, noticing the harsh coldness of the metal. I placed my hands under the water and kept them there until a small puddle formed in my palms. I bended over until my face was just a few inches from touching the sink. I splashed the cold water onto my face hoping it would wash off the dried blood on my lips and somehow stop the blood coming from my mouth.

I looked back into the mirror, my skin still looked like it hadn't seen the sun in days, but my lips no longer had blood on them. For good measure I tilted my head to the side and placed my mouth under the stream of water until a good amount was in my mouth. I sloshed it around in my mouth for a few seconds and then leaned over the sink to spit it out.

When the water fell onto the sink my whole body felt a strike of shivers sent down my spine.

The water was tinted a dark reddish color.

Suddenly, an itchy feeling started growing in my throat. The type you get when you inhale strong spices. But there was no spices just a faint smell of...flowers? No that can't be right, but before I could think about it huge coughs erupted from my throat making it hard for me to breathe. My eyes started watering and my hands gripped where my heart was hidden from the fabric of my uniform.

Just as I thought I was going to collapse from no oxygen, a strange thing started  rising out of my mouth. The strange object fell out and started flowing out onto the ground. Once the foggyness in my eyes dissipated I slowly sat on my knees and leaned over to look at what came out of my mouth.

A single flower.

Colored dark red with faint lines of yellow scattered across the petals.

A single flower.

Laying on the bathroom floor.
