An Angels Wings

Summary:

“…I’m proud of you, you know, Nicky?”

Nick’s eyes widened.

“For what?”

“…Just…being you. You’re the one with the more apparent mutation. You deal with discrimination everyday. It must suck to have to go through that.”

Another pause.

“…I love you, Nick.”

Nicholas blinked—then, his wings curled around Danny more instinctively.

“I love you too, Danny.”

A mini slice of life fic featuring Mutant!Nicholas and Mutant!Danny.

Work Text:

Nicholas Angel let out a soft sigh he didn’t even know he was holding in as he meticulously brushed his right wing in the mirror—careful not to accidentally take off a feather. Today had been a long day of practicing flying and arresting people, and Nicholas—or, ‘Angel’, as the people called him for his wings—just needed a break.

After a bit, Nicholas placed down the brush and stretched out his wings as far as they could go, flapping them a little. His wings rested neatly at his sides as he finally managed to relax, which was pretty hard since he absolutely hated the feeling of the wings on his back.

Suddenly, the door opened, and there stood Danny Butterman in some action movie t-shirt and shorts, confused as he saw Nicholas.

“You’re still awake, Nicky?” He asked, yawning. He looked at the clock on the wall—12:21 AM, it read. Danny walked over, sitting down next to Nicholas.

You see, ever since Nick discovered he was a mutant, he could never sleep normally; the damn wings always got in the way! He was always up late or waking up in the middle of the night for no reason. Danny was so lucky his mutation was just ramming into things and not being hurt.

Nicholas’ eyes just darted around the room at Danny’s question, before eventually meeting his eyes again. “I suppose I am.”
Danny put a hand on Nicholas’ shoulder. “This can’t go on, Nick. Is everything okay?”

“I am alright,” Nicholas replied. “Just…not tired.”

Nicholas’ wings suddenly stretched outward more—wrapping a wing around Danny’s shoulder as if he wanted him closer to him. Nick could feel his face get hot—why did he just do that?

Danny’s eyes widened for a split second—but a warm smile quickly replaced his surprised expression.

“Ever since you got these bloody wings you’ve never been the same. Even your sleep schedule. You need rest, love.” Danny softly spoke—making Nick go even more red at his words as if that was even possible.

“I know. I’m working on it.”

“Good.”

A pause.

Danny turned his head to look at Nicholas, watching as the blonde did the same. Then, Danny leaned in, softly pressing his lips against the other man's, closing his eyes upon contact. Nicholas’ wings curled more around his boyfriend as if they were afraid to let him go.

When they pulled away, Danny couldn’t help but ask him another question.

“…Hey, Nick?”

“Yes?”

He paused for a second. “Can I touch your wings?”

Nicholas sighed—smiling. “I suppose that is acceptable.”

Danny’s face lit up—immediately going to pet one of his wings as if it was an animal and not a part of his boyfriend’s body. “It’s so soft, Nicky!”

Nicholas just smiled, holding him close with his other wing. “I take good care of them.”

Danny wrapped his arms around the other man, burying his face into his neck. Nicholas quickly relaxed—wings wrapping around Danny like a blanket.

They sat there like that for the rest of the night—an angel and his boyfriend.

Eventually, they fell asleep. Just like that.
