It couldn’t be real. There was no way that this could be true, and if it was, it was breaking her heart into pieces. She hadn't felt this kind of pain since that day in the kitchen when he broke her heart. She had been so certain that with time he would realize that what they had was a love meant to be and that they would have a fairytale ending.
From the moment Ana Flores had laid eyes on Edmundo Diaz, she knew that he was the only man for her. He was perfect in every way. They would make a perfect couple. For moments, she had her dream life.
She knew that one day she would be Mrs Edmundo Diaz; she would be a wonderful mother to Christopher. Heaven knows the boy needed one, what with his mother running away only to leave them ago before she was tragically killed; she was certain that once Christopher accepted his limitations, he would be a wonderful big brother to hers and Edmundo's healthy children they would soon have. A single tear rolled down Ana's cheek as she glanced towards the wedding binder she had between her books on the bookshelf.
Ugly rage filled Ana's chest as she turned her attention back to her phone. Looking at the pictures and videos, she was hit hard with a realization she had wanted to face before she had competed with Evan Buckley, even before she and Edmundo started dating. Looking at Edmundo’s Instagram, the one that she knew he barely remembered he had, she felt her heart cracking all over again. She had lost. “Looks like you beat me, Evan Buckley. For now, one day Edmundo will realize that I am his soulmate and leave you in the cold as he comes back to me.”
Tommy Kinard had faced his fair share of competition in his life, and usually he was the one who came out on top. That was how it was supposed to be when it came to Evan Buckley. Oh, he had tried at first to see if he would be the first one to bring Eddie Diaz into a man’s bed. He failed. So he turned his attention to Evan, and there was no denying that once he started listening to him, stopped his endless talk about nothing anyone cared about and just let Tommy do whatever he wanted with him in bed, he was the perfect boyfriend.
But Evan wasn't someone he wanted to settle down with. He couldn't deny that Evan hadn't been a good time and good boyfriend, and at the time he had meant it when he told him that he was Evan’s first and couldn't be his last. Because as long as Eddie Diaz was in Evan’s life, no one could compete and win. Then Eddie left, and Tommy figured that maybe he and Evan could try again; at least Tommy could get laid without having to go out looking for a hookup.
Rolling his eyes at the pictures and videos that Chimney clearly had a great time taking, Tommy took a long swallow of his beer. “I dodged a bullet with Evan. Congratulations, Eddie looks like you won.”
“Papa!”
Bending down, Eddie caught the missile that was known as Theo before he slammed into his legs. Gathering the laughing little boy in his arms. “Hello, Spider-Man, having fun?” Taking in the red frosting covering the boy’s face, Eddie couldn't stop the chuckle that escaped him. “I see someone has already had a piece of cake.”
Grinning proudly, Theo nodded his head, “Christopher and Denny gave all of us cake. But shh, it's a secret.” He whispered, pressing a red-covered finger to his lips.
A serious look appeared on Eddie's face as he nodded, “Don't worry, I'll keep the secret.” He promised, a wide smile appearing on his face as Theo held out his pinky and he easily wrapped his pinky around Theo's.
“Do I want to know what you two are making a pinky promise over?”
Eddie knew he was grinning like an idiot as Buck appeared at his side with the littlest member of their family safely tucked in Buck’s arms, looking around the Nash-Grant backyard with wide eyes.
“We can't tell you; after all, a pinky promise is an unbreakable promise,” Eddie informed Buck as Theo nodded in his arms. “How is our little princess?” Eddie asked as he pressed a kiss against Lillian's cheek before pressing a longer one against Buck’s lips.
Lillian entered their lives shortly after Buck was able to adopt Theo. Apparently, while Kamera and Conner's family loved Theo, they had never approved of them using donor sperm, especially once they learned Buck’s family history with cancer; they gave full rights to Buck. Lillian, the daughter of Buck and Natalia, who hadn't known she was pregnant with their child until she had gotten to New York, Eddie will never understand why she hadn't told Buck until she did, which included giving Buck full custody of their daughter.
“She has been the belle of the ball. I nearly didn't get her back from Bobby and Athena. I had to promise they could take their grandchildren for a weekend.” Buck explained.
“Ahh, okay.” Besides Eddie, the next best two people to wrangle Theo's boundless energy were indeed Bobby and Athena. Unable to resist because now he can do it, Eddie pressed another kiss against Buck’s lips.
A series of groans filled the air, ones that were quickly silenced.
“Come on, you two, time for photos! Save the mushy stuff for the honeymoon.” Chimney yelled before he was silenced by Maddie and Jee.
“Come along, husband; we need to track down our oldest.” Buck's blue eyes were dancing at the fact that he could now call Eddie his husband.
“I think he snuck away to play video games with Denny.” Lightly gesturing to Theo and the cake on his face, Eddie wasn't surprised at the long-suffering sigh that escaped Buck.
“Good thing he will probably run off all that extra energy.” Buck turned his attention to Theo. “Did you enjoy your cake?”
A gasp escaped Theo. “How do you know, Dad?”
Grinning, Buck said, “Because I'm magic, that's how I know.”
Eyes wide, Theo turned his gaze onto Eddie. “Is Daddy really magic?”
“He is. From the moment I met him, I knew he was magical. That is why when he smiles at us and hugs us it feels like the sun. It is because he has the power of the sun flowing through him. That is why I call him Mi Sol because he is my sun.” Eddie smiled at the blush that appeared on Buck’s cheeks.
Looking between his two dads, Theo made a thinking face. “Is this the part where Chris tells me that I should go eww?”
A snort of laughter escaped Buck as he shook his head, “Only if you want to, Spider-Man, only if you want to.”
Tilting his head, Theo looked at his little sister, “If I’m Spider-Man and Chris is Superman, then who is Lil?”
Glancing down at their little princess, Buck and Eddie exchanged a look. “She’s a little too young for us to figure out what kind of hero she is, so we have a bit of time to figure that out.” Chimney seemed to have decided that Lillian would love Princess Leia and was already wondering how soon he could introduce Star Wars to the kids.
Shrugging his shoulders made perfect sense to Theo; after all, he didn’t become Spider-Man until he came to Buck and Eddie. “Can we get more cake?”
A chuckle escaped Eddie, “Maybe, bud, maybe.”
As they went to round up their oldest for the wedding photos that Chimeny, who turned out to be the Groomzila despite it not being his wedding, was demanding. He finally was himself; it had been his Abuela, his loving Abuela, who helped him realize that he wasn’t straight and that there was no shame in that.
“Oh my dear sweet Eddito,” Isabel reached out to rest a hand on Eddie’s cheek. “I could not love you. I know deep in your heart that you love Evanito. All I want is for you to be happy, and he makes you happy.”
Figuring out that he was demisexual had been a journey, one that Buck had supported him every step of the way, and now here he was married to the love of his life with three amazing children. For the first time in so long, Eddie felt like a winner.
