"I have one thing to say and only one: you are incredibly annoying with your accusations." Would he ever stop?
"There are only two people on this planet who could be Kid and that's either you or Kudou Shinichi. I think it is obvious why I have determined you to be the most likely culprit, is it not?"
"You are a nutcase," completely right, but so damn annoying. He had no proof, he never had no proof and will not have any proof. Why did he insist so much on catching Kid anyway? There were more useful things to spend his time on. "You've spent years of your life obsessing over me and Kid. Are you sure that you are interested in women?"
Kaito doubted Hakuba was even capable of such a thing. It was as though Hakuba's whole entire being was thoroughly possessed by the thoughts of Kid and Kuroba and not much else. Even if he somehow caught him, which he never would, he wouldn't have another hobby! It was all that seemingly mattered in his life and the thing that he devoted himself to.
Hakuba was shocked at Kaito's words. "My interest in Kaitou Kid has nothing to do with my sexual preferences."
"I can't believe that you are so obsessed with me and with Kid without any attraction to either of us." No straight man can be so damn obsessed with another man. He surely couldn't! Kaito refused to believe that that was possible. It's not as though Kaito or his father had stolen something invaluable to Hakuba himself or his family. "Not possible."
"Your logic seems..." Hakuba lacked a word for it. That was an outrageous jump in logic. A detective trying to catch a thief? Must have a thing for said thief.
"I see no other possible reason for your behavior." It would explain so much. "What straight man takes the waist measurements of another man, when he isn't a tailor trying to make a suit for him?"
"You're–"
"Quite happy to let you take me on a date," said Kaito. It was mostly a joke. He just wanted to see Hakuba's reaction.
And boy did he get to see it. He was flustered, pink all over. He couldn't form a comprehensible sentence.
"Do I hear a yes?" he coaxed.
To his surprise, Hakuba, as read as he was, nodded. Huh. That was surprisingly. He hadn't actually thought that Hakuba was gay. Or interested in men in any way. He wasn't joking. Kaito blinked, trying not to give away his surprise. "Okay then. How about Friday? I'll pick you up."
He didn't suggest an actual place to go to because he had no idea where to take him. He's never asked anyone out like this. (Not that he has asked many people out so far.)
Hakuba continued to give non-verbal responses that Kaito interpreted, with caution, as a yes.
