Summary
Leopold (Leo) Crawley, second of four children and only son of the Earl of Grantham, heir to the title and Downton Abbey estate and a renowned womanising playboy.
A life of privilege, entitlement and prestige handed to him from birth, expected to inherit and live according to the part he has to play. Marry well, listen to his tenants and further the family name. Handsome and witty, the darling of high society seems to have his entire future mapped out for him.
All is going well until he returns from his European travels in the spring of 1912 and meets the footman Thomas Barrow (whom many whisper unsavoury things about). A friendship that defies class and societal boundaries forms, and eventually blossoms into something they dare not even label.

It was a mild day (what else) in the grounds of an estate called Downton Abbey. After literally falling onto the floor right in front of the owners in question of the estate, the Earl and Countess of Grantham, Robert and Cora Crawley.

Summary
After the royal visit, life barely returns to normal at Downton Abbey. A series of marriages, births, and deaths would be difficult enough for the occupants even if there weren't vicious criminals on the loose. Familiar faces from the past come back to haunt the current occupants, and once again Downton plays host to an unwelcome guest. Stuck in the middle of all of it, Thomas Barrow must come to terms with what it means to be a flawed human being, and lay to rest all the demons of his youth.
