Summary

Sometime into their journey, after Mackenzie gets stuck with the convicts, Mathis falls ill, which not only leads to him being unable to take care of himself due to the weakness and fever but also worsens his already poor pink eye, the infection and the cold taking the better of the man. With no one else to do so, it falls upon Mackenzie to take care of the convict, even if Mathis definitely does not deserve the help. But Mackenzie is above leaving a man to die out in the snow, even if the man in question is Mathis.
