Killua tries not to notice things about him, but it’s already too late - because he was trained to be painfully observant. He doesn’t want to recognise that the man is middle-aged with lines of stress creasing his skin, that his suit is worn and tired as if he can’t afford a new one, or the way the silver ring on his left hand indents slightly into his skin as if he’s been wearing it for a very long time.
He hates how all these details combine to remind him just how human this man before him is, regardless of whatever it is he has done to end up a target.

The finale didn't do it for me, so I decided to take it from the top and rewrite the entire show...y'know, like a normal person.
Here is my version of Season 1, where everyone has a backstory and I added relationships, friendships, and character interactions, out of pure self-indulgence. I once heard the whole show had been planned from the very start, and then as we moved through it was clear that wasn't the case. So this is my attempt at a do-over where it was (and hopefully that comes across), to try to fill in some plot holes while largely staying faithful to the show.
