Summary
Regina had spotted Emma sitting on a hill nearby a few minutes ago, watching from afar as everyone celebrated in the park. Emma, however, was sitting alone, face expressionless, ear buds in her ears, quietly observing the festivities. Had Regina not known the sheriff as well as she did, had she not memorised nearly every one of Emma’s facial expressions, and had she not been told by said woman that music was her escape, Regina probably wouldn’t have realised that something was very wrong with Emma.
Emma confesses some of the trauma she suffered at the hands of her foster carers. Regina, of course, is there to comfort and protect her.

She thinks of Betsy in the hospital bed, her mumbled apologies, her glassy eyes. She thinks of Dylan, the way he’d stumbled back as Lisa had threatened him, fear and horror clouding his features as he’d come to understand what his actions had caused. And in her mind’s eye, she sees a sudden flash of her own memories— Lisa’s red face beneath her, her own palm squeezing Lisa’s throat, Lisa moaning between gasps of air. She feels monstrous.

So tonight, she doesn't want to have to choose what to be, what to do.
She doesn't want to have to think at all.
She wants that control to be ripped from her grasp. Wants instead to place her mind entirely in Carla's hands, to let herself be unravelled till she knows nothing but her. She needs to let go of everything else, to become suggestible and pliant for Carla to shape however she pleases, to be taken however she wishes. Until she knows she's exactly what Carla wants — until there's no more room for doubt.
Until she's good.
