“Gil—” J.J. says, but Shane doesn’t want him to finish that sentence, to pull Comeau gently off the ledge he’s steering himself toward. Shane wants to push him, kicking and screaming, to make them say it to his fucking face. That after all this time, they still hate him for the heinous crime of falling in love.
“We’ve been married for two years,” Shane says. “I’m not sure that qualifies as playing house. I mean, it’s longer than you were with your first wife, isn’t it?”

Summary
Jaskier is the fourth son of the minor noble house of Pankratz. He has always wanted to leave Lettenhove to explore, but is limited by the expectations that come with his station. When his parents betroth him to a Duke, he thinks it might be his chance to see the world, and let the world see him, and hear his music.
He sets out on a sea voyage to meet his new husband, but before he ever arrives, the vessel is set upon by pirates. Captain Rience has reasons to leave Jaskier as the sole survivor, and none of them are good.
The thing Rience has forgotten, the only thing pirates have to fear on the high seas.....are other pirates.

Summary
Toni has seen tattoos before. Happy, her security guard for as long as she could remember, had one on his bicep of his mother’s favorite flower, so. It’s not like Toni wasn’t aware of the things or didn’t believe in their existence. She’s just never seen someone so saturated with them. It’s a stark difference from the people she grew up knowing: stiff public figures in formal clothing who denounced youth culture and considered people with tattoos degenerates.
He’s everything her father warned her about when she insisted on going to public university under a different last name. He’s so raw.

Wade scoffs, shaking his head and elbowing Peter in the side. “Sure,” he says, sarcastic. “That’s why your spidey-sense doesn’t see me.”
Peter’s on the verge of laughing, wanting to join Wade in his amusement, but he freezes. His entire body goes still. He finds himself staring at a roof three buildings over, not even looking at anything. Two blocks away, a car alarm finally shuts off.
“I never told you that,” Peter says, the realization startling him.
