Summary
Richie pointedly does not look out of the window. He’s hoping (and almost certain) that running guy is entirely out of view by now, but then he hears Stan make an interested sound.
“Richie,” he looks at him. “Were you just watching that man run past your house?”
“No. I was admiring the birds, actually.” Richie replies loftily, because he knows that nothing gets Stan going like talk of birds.
But there’s none around. Not one single, measly bird. Interesting, considering how many seem to be around and tweeting when he’s trying to sleep. The world is against him.

"Oh, Richie, aren't those boys friends of yours from school?"
Richie sat up a little straighter to peek out the window as his mom pulled up to the stop sign. At the corner, a cute little stand was set up on the strip of grass between the sidewalk and the street, a sweating pitcher of iced down lemonade resting on the table next to a leaning stack of paper cups, two boys in rickety old lawn chairs sitting behind it.
He recognized the boy closer to the car as Billy Denbrough, and next to him at the table was Eddie Kaspbrak himself. Richie felt his face flush treacherously at the realization.

Summary
It's not that Eddie has been trying to lie, exactly. Given his mother's loose relationship with the truth, he's pretty sure lies of omission are not the same thing. It's just that things in his new office have been going really well, and Richie is being Richie about it, and this is maybe the most impulsive thing he's done since he was fifteen.
And there is maybe a tiny, tiny part of him that worries none of his coworkers will ever take him seriously again if they know the whole truth, for several reasons.
It's just, they may have a few risk-related concerns about him getting divorced ten months ago, moving in with Richie eight months ago, and having a clandestine courthouse wedding two months ago.

So there was that reason that work wasn’t boring, too. There was Richie’s soppy campaign of making cow eyes at the back of Eddie’s head as he passed, gently pressing Betty for details about his personal life (“I don’t think he has one. He had this awful fiancé a few years ago, but we’re all glad that’s over”), and chasing the incomparable high of a quiet, muttered “Thanks, Rich” whenever Richie picks something up for him from the copier.
Richie is a wannabe stand-up comic daylighting as the receptionist at Eddie's office. Eddie is a tightly-wound corporate asshole. They are both disasters. Or: five times Richie watched Eddie and one that Eddie watched him back.

Eventually he was told to go and wait in one of the patient rooms and that a doctor would be along shortly. He carried Maggie over into the room, sitting her on the small medical bed. “Not long now.” He assured her. He felt guilty for bringing her out so late, but with her temperature steadily climbing he wasn’t taking risks. Richie tapped his foot impatiently, ten seconds away from going back out and actually pulling the famous card (he had visions of himself saying “do you know who I am?”) when the door opened to reveal the most gorgeous man Richie had ever seen in his life, complete in a set of light yellow hospital scrubs. Every complaint about the wait time left his head.

"What the fuck, Bev?" he asks in a harsh whisper. Beverly sighs, heaving Richie up higher against her as he begins to slip.
"I know. I know!" she says. "I just didn't know where else to take him! I can't bring him home like this. And you know my dad will freak if I bring a boy home. Especially like this."
Like this is drunker than Eddie's ever seen anyone, let alone Richie. He can smell the alcohol seeping out of Richie's pores, something sickly sweet punctuated by the lingering scent of cigarette smoke wafting off both of them. Eddie wrinkles his nose against it, his mouth twisting sourly the closer he nears the two of them.

Eddie feels something in his chest twist at the words. He knows about Shay’s life, of course. He knows that it’s just her, that she lost her parents at a young age and that she bounced from family member to family member until the last family member to have custody of her also passed away.
“We do,” Eddie says, and then, remembering that the point of this is to be honest, that it’s for Shay to meet them and decide if she wants to continue to process, Eddie continues, “Our house is kind of chaotic, especially on the weeks that Frankie stays with us. But…” He glances at Richie.
Richie finds Eddie’s hand under the table; he can feel the pad of Richie’s thumb sliding over his knuckles. “We definitely have room for one more, if… I mean, it’s completely up to you, Shay. You’ll have to deal with twin toddlers bugging you sometimes and whatever this one-”
“-more like you, Rich, you pretty much wake up the entire house when you have to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night-”
“-dude, Eds. Not in front of the young lady, please.” Richie gestures to Shay, grinning at Eddie’s scoff.
