Summary
Erling was born to fight and to travel the seas. He had long since stopped wondering why he did it. He was the leader of the Vikings, the leading fleet of the new King of Nóreegr. When his king asked him to conquer the Saxon kingdom of Bellingham, a territory coveted for its mineral and agricultural riches, he had no choice but to accept.
Of all the Anglo-Saxon kingdoms, Bellingham was the only one that had never been conquered. Many spoke of its beauty, of the good life that prevailed there, thanks to the Bellingham lineage, who had dedicated their lives to ensuring the kingdom’s prosperity. Many spoke of their army of loyal and faithful soldiers, who were willing to do anything to protect their people and their kings. Particularly the current king, about whom the winds never ceased to carry various rumours.
A king of unrivalled beauty, of unwavering strength, who bowed to nothing and no one. A king so formidable in battle that no one had ever managed to wound him.
Erling had spent months hearing about him, and after several days in captivity, he could say with certainty that if he could turn back time, he would never have set foot on this land where the devil himself was making his life a living hell.
