Summary
Rumi is the light in the lives of both Zoey and Mira. She is their little warrior, the child they fought hard to get and even though she can't speak, she loves everyone deeply. The three of them are slowly but surely learning how to be a family, and for a long time, that seemed enough. But one day, the three of them met... Rumi. A lonely but talented street artist who turns Zoey's and Mira's world upside down. In one short but magical meeting, this weird Rumi managed to give the two women something they didn't know how to obtain: their sweet child voice back.
After that, throughout many seasons and brief encounters, the enigmatic Rumi keeps meeting Zoey and Mira in musical situations. The three of them start to slowly build a trusting relationship which after a long time, turns into love. However, Rumi is a very troubled soul and her life has been filled with so much pain and disappointment that she cannot allow herself to simply enjoy life and discover who she really is beyond what the cruel world has made her.
This is a story of music, trust and hurt, in which everyone will discover the simple ways in which one can love a Rumi.

“This is Ryu Rumi—um, Captain Ryu Rumi. I’m recording this log to send back to Earth with the knowledge that I believe I may be the first human to make first contact with an alien species.”
And now the hard part.
Rumi swivels her head to the side and waves her hand before she quickly mouths, ‘Mira do not fuck me over here’.
‘Mira’ is the incredibly tall alien rock with a carapace made out of rainbow lattice sunstone, is vaguely shaped like a crab-spider, five legs and all, and she hates Rumi more than Rumi could possibly fathom. She had drifted aimlessly in space for days before she was approached by the Blip-A—Mira’s ship—and was effectively taken hostage within her own ship.
(or, captain ryu rumi meets aerospace engineer eridian mira in the depths of space with all hope seeming lost for the two of them; or, microbiologist eridian zoey is absolutely fucking not letting her mate die in space, maybe hijacks a spaceship to ensure that doesn't happen, and gets a little more than what she bargained for in the process)

Summary
“Rumi, you were...you were going to...” Zoey starts, her voice dying off halfway through her sentence. Rumi watches her throat bob before she chokes out, “You were going to kill yourself. I-I just, we—we’re just, um, we just...we’re...”
“It’s...it has to be harder for you,” Mira whispers. “So, um. We figured you didn’t want to...talk about it.”
Zoey nods. “W-which is fine! You, you don’t have to.”
Mira breathes out, “We didn’t want to make you feel like you, I don’t know, had to. Or whatever.”
“Exactly,” Zoey softly agrees. “I-I’m sorry, I wasn’t trying to make you feel weird about it, I just, um, I just...we’ve, um, you know. It’s...”
Neither of them speak once Zoey trails off and doesn’t pick back up on her train of thought.
Rumi stands there in stunned silence for a few seconds.
“What?” she asks, screwing up her face. “I didn’t—what are you talking about? I didn’t try to—what?” Rumi tries again, trying and failing to get out the words. “I didn’t try to kill myself.”
(or, a look into what comes next after attempting to take your own life even if you fundamentally disagree that that's what you tried to do)
