The voice was rich, leathery, and smooth, a controlled belt from the chest of the woman on stage. Mira imagined she could see the concentration in the woman’s closed eyes and furrowed brow, if the stage lights weren’t hitting her from behind, shrouding her in a golden silhouette.
Every bar was effortless. Every note an odyssey.
Mira looked at Zoey. The girl was just as transfixed. More so than Mira, even. But then, Zoey’s attunement to the Honmoon was much stronger than Mira’s. Zoey often said the Honmoon kind of felt like the Ocean from Moana. Mira had never seen it so she had to take Zoey’s word for it.
The Honmoon rippled.

Zoey's heart squeezed almost painfully with relief at hearing her voice. "Yes, hi", she said in a rush. "It's me."
"Sorry, can't open my eyes", Mira told her, speaking slowly and sounding like it took a lot of effort. "Hurts. Glad you're okay."
Zoey almost laughed, but tears ended up running down her cheeks instead. "I'm glad you're okay too", she said. And 'okay' was probably an overstatement, probably too optimistic, but she couldn't bring herself to correct her. Her lower lip wobbled, emotions beginning to wrack through her as her mind became clearer. She could barely move. Her neck seemed to work and she could wiggle her toes a bit, but her legs felt heavy and her body just… bad. This was bad, they were in bad shape. And then there was…
Zoey was almost afraid to ask, but she had to. "Where's Rumi?"
Waking up severely injured, Mira and Zoey get few answers from Celine and must make terrible discoveries about what really happened and why Rumi is really avoiding them on their own.

Summary
Her hands were human, not purple and ending in claws. Her vision was back to normal. She no longer felt her canines pressing against her lips, but as she ran her tongue across them they still seemed a little longer and definitely sharper as she immediately tasted blood.
She was…well, almost normal. If not for the patterns that so clearly screamed she wasn’t human.
They were supposed to be gone. Or she was. She had expected either for the golden honmoon to remove her patterns as promised, kill her, or send her to the demon realm(and oh how she had prayed it wasn’t that final option-she’d rather be dead).
But now, she had to live like this. And she no longer had hope of fixing herself.

The weird, famous lady spirited her away (Mira took a cab, but whatever) to her not-at-all sketchy retreat in the mountains and told her she would become a famous Kpop idol and also a supernatural demon hunter who would defend the world from evil. Or else.
This, understandably, changed her life and her understanding of herself completely.
The other thing that did that was Rumi.

“You could call me hot,” Mira teases, laughing at how Rumi gives another breathy huff. “I’m dying over here, Rumi.”
“Do you—do you seriously need me to tell you that you’re pretty?” Rumi demands. “You know that.”
Mira blinks.
She moves her head, looking down at Rumi now, feeling her heart stutter in her chest. It’s not as if Rumi hasn’t complimented her before, it’s just always been...like, about sparring. Rumi tells her she’s a fast learner every single day, that she’s naturally good at long-ranged weaponry, that she’s adaptable, good at bouncing back, skilled with the wooden staffs they use.
“You think I’m pretty?” Mira asks, wincing as soon as the words come out of her mouth. They sound too desperate on her ears, too pathetic, too—
“Did you not know that?” Rumi asks, looking at her directly now, face screwed up in confusion. “Obviously.”
Mira blinks again.
“You think I’m pretty,” she presses.
“Of course I think you’re pretty, Mira,” Rumi says, softly.

Summary
There were many perks that came with dating Rumi, but one of Mira’s favorites was getting to sleep in late while wrapped around each other. The Rumi of years past would never have entertained lounging of all things, but here she was, sprawled lazily atop Mira. Rumi was unfairly pretty in the morning light, with soft features and even softer eyes just for Mira.
