Kakashi was tired.
A couple times he still second guessed himself. Wondered if it would be better to fail the team and let whatever happens to them happen.
But every time he saw the photo of his old team, he remembered why he couldn’t.
He couldn’t let that happen to them. This system had already screwed them over. The people who were supposed to care for them had done the opposite.
Kakashi wasn’t going to be another adult who let these kids down.
“I don’t know what’s going to happen. And maybe I’ll only make things worse…” Kakashi murmured softly to the framed photo at his bedside. “…But I have to try.”
He had to. Or these pups were as good as dead.
OR: Kakashi realizes how bullshit it is that Team Seven was even a team in the first place, and does things differently. Screw Hiruzen for putting him in this position.

Ben sounded wounded– hurt in a way which would not heal with time alone. He looked like a tired Verd, a battle-weary warrior. Jaster had seen the look before. Many Verde wore it. The glint of deeply rooted pain sparked in Ben’s eyes too.
Instead of asking more, Jaster turned his head to watch the sunrise along with Ben.

When Regulus Black went into that cave, he was fully prepared for self-sacrifice. In theory. In the end, Kreacher took matters into his own tiny hands and decided to (be a little shit) rebel. Well, it did save Regulus' life temporarily, if that counts for something. What Regulus did not predict is that a Master of Death would materialise in the living room of his safehouse while he was totally chilling (bleeding out more like, really) on the floor there. And save the day.
Includes: one grumpy Hadrian Peverell, now stranded in another Dimension because Fate deemed it entertaining enough; four tubs of emotional angst, mending relationships, fighting (White, Dark and solely political) Lords and a whole lot of fluff when we force things to work out.
