Jack blinks, faltering.
“What?” Davey asks, tilting his head. “Don’t worry, I’m following—tissue paper, newspaper and cardstock. We also probably have about half a ream of printer paper lying around somewhere if you want to use that too.”
Jack’s face cycles through what looks to be an entire catalogue of expressions. His mouth works furiously for a few seconds before he finally manages, “What did you just say?”

Ilya looked over what he had achieved. Thirty-five minutes, it had taken him: truly a testament to his ingenuity, dexterity, and stealth. It was a masterpiece that deserved to be displayed in a museum—shared with the world and admired by the masses for generations to come. Unfortunately, he wasn’t willing to give up Shane to anyone or for anything, even a cause as worthy as art. He would have to make do.
He pulled out his phone, snapped a photo, and sent it to the group chat.

Summary
“You are planning to rob me or what?” He hears Rozanov call, and he can’t help but smile slightly even as he rolls his eyes, closing the door to the linen closet and feeling strangely lighter than when he opened it, reassured that he’s just trying to read into a blank page, that today doesn’t mean anything more than Rozanov doesn’t mind him being around, which is strangely flattering.
“I don’t know,” he calls back. “Don’t Russians like diamonds and fur and stuff? Where should I start looking if I want to know what my options are?”
He hears Rozanov laugh, and it makes him smile.
When he joins him in the living room once more, Rozanov tugs him down to lean against him again. Shane goes easier this time, settling into it, knowing it doesn’t mean anything other than the fact that he just happens to be the closest warm body, the person on Rozanov’s roster who filled today’s slot.

There hadn’t been a whole lot of tape, back then, not on a bunch of kids who were likely to get chewed up and spit out by the KHL, but Rozanov was a special case – his agent had clearly known his aim was for North American leagues, and there’d been a few tapes leaked here and there of the fourteen, fifteen, sixteen year old phenom who had more trick plays up his sleeve than Yuna, personally, thought was true hockey. The video of his spin on the Michigan had made the rounds in David’s McGill email chain, and Yuna had tipped her chin up and sworn up and down he’d be a one-trick pony who’d be flat on his ass the first time he tried that shit in the pros.
Shane had downloaded the video to his desktop and studied the tape like he did old games of Scott Hunter.
