Flevance burns under the orders of those who call themselves Justice. In one world, there would have been only one survivor.
In another, there would have been two.

Summary
For the longest time, he's nothing but the boy from the jungle, and his world stops at the town animals avoid at all costs. He does the same, because he doesn't know any better and all the unfamiliar noises make him sick.
He grows fast and strong but hungry and cold, and learns what is good to eat by trying and seeing if he coughs up blood after. More than animals, he fears the cold of the winter, the one thing he can't escape.
The blanket is his only shelter beside the cave, and he grabs it with shaking hands and doesn't notice the words sewn. How could he, when he doesn't even know how to read?

Summary
Monkey D. Dragon leaves Marineford behind, sneaking into a ship while crying tears of sorrow and rage, hating himself and the world and swearing to tear it all apart. There is no one to witness this, the start of the one who will declare war on the world to protect the innocents. The rain swallows his words and his tears, and his promise goes unheard by all.
Well, not quite. The rain hears him.
(Perhaps this, more than anything, is what made the difference.)

Summary
Shanks babbled something, frowning as he struggled to put one foot in front of the other. This time, he managed three steps before falling. He whined, and Shamrock giggled.
Dragon sighed and walked over to pick him up. Once in his arms, Shanks babbled something incomprehensible, reaching toward the deck.
Dragon stared at him. Slowly, he placed Shanks back on his feet.
“Come on,” he whispered, “Try again.”
(Amidst blood and despair, Dragon saved two children and became a father.)

Summary
Or: Law Steals a Cabin Boy.
After the newspapers announced the Straw Hat Pirates had been eliminated--save one cabin boy, fourteen year old Portgas D. Ace, who was being remanded to protective custody in Marineford--Trafalgar Law decides to do something crazy. In one world, this put him in just the right position to serve as a timely escape. In this one, it got him an angry, grieving gremlin. Law is tired, Ace has come up swinging, and the Hearts are just delighted.
“I’ve got better things to do than lie to a cabin boy. And you’re not going to take me in a fight, so you might as well take a minute and calm down and listen to me.”
Ace bares his teeth at this idiot. “Shut up! You don’t know anything!”

Summary
Perhaps observing him sitting on the deck, clutching at his skull, is enough to reassure the little boy that Brook is no threat. He cautiously clambers aboard, sword clutched in one hand, and leans forward to give Brook’s nearest foot a poke with the tip of his blade. The sheer absurdity of it should be enough to make anyone laugh, but the skeleton manages to restrain himself. “You- are you dead?”
“In a sense, yes! But also technically, no! Yohohoho!” Well, at least he restrained himself momentarily. With no hat to doff, Brook settles for sweeping his arms about and bowing from his seated position. “Humming Brook, last remaining member of the Rumbar Pirates, at your service!”
The boy’s eyes grow very wide. He stares at Brook for a long moment, before glancing about the rather tattered ship, and seems to come to something of a decision. “If you’re a pirate, I should arrest you.” Ah. That does not sound promising. “But... If I rescue you instead, that means you owe me a debt?”
Judging by his immediate grimace, the child didn’t mean for that to come out as a question.

Summary
He’s a little thing, maybe four or five years old if she had to guess, and that would be concerning enough considering he’s alone in the woods, a quarter of the way up a mountain and at least a mile away from civilization all by his lonesome. But Nami’s always been the observant type of person; had to be, to get by for most of her life, and to be a good navigator, and this kid? This kid is setting off all the warning bells in her mind. Not the kid himself, mind you; but at all the little details that are telling her that he really should not be here.
When Law goes missing during a stop on a quiet, out-of-the-way island, the Hearts and the visiting Straw Hats immediately drop everything to find him. But instead of the captain, they find a small boy with a familiar face who just wants to go home.
As investigations into the strange nature of the island and what has happened bear fruit, both crews are left with the uncomfortable realization that they don't know how to predict how or if Law will be able to return.
Or worse: if he'll even want to come back at all.
