Some of them amass favors owed. Some of them make bargains.
Rumpelstiltskin has always found himself called to tears, the quiet ones of despair, the ones that are silent because it never occurs to the one weeping that someone might hear and come to comfort them. It might be better, if he could simply help them without asking anything in return, but his magic always asks for a bargain.

Summary
A shuffle of feet. Lockwood’s standing right behind her. She can feel the warmth of him shiver all along her back, the nape of her neck.
She’s about to turn to face him when suddenly that warmth connects: Lockwood’s arms fold carefully around her, his body draping overtop of hers like he suddenly can’t stand. Lucy stiffens. His chin touches the side of her head, then his jaw, his mouth, as he curls in over her back, tucks his head down into her shoulder. Their cheeks press together. Something warm and heavy settles on the top of her head, and she realizes he’s pulled the blanket up over both of their heads like a shelter.
Like a cape.
“Sorry, Lucy,” he whispers in her ear. “Just bear it for a second. Please.”

It’s raining and he comes home with a cat.
He’d rushed off, earlier that day, with a quick kiss and a promise to be home as soon as possible – nothing too reckless, he’d insisted, just needed to go out one last time, Evans, had one last important thing to do before they “closed shop,” as he’d put it. Which was to say, before they officially went in hiding.
Thinking back, Lily isn’t sure what exactly she’d expected.
