Simon Riley is a strong man. He's a support pillar, always has been. It comes as no surprise that he'd be someone to care for his teammates, making sure they've eaten, slept well, and weren't sore. Even if it's something as small as a headache, he's there for them, silent and supportive.
He just doesn't let himself receive the same gentle care.

Summary
This idea came to me when I was listening to Willing and Able by Noah Kahan.
Simon left his family behind after the night they were attacked. He leaves to protect them and fifteen years go by. Then a young recruit comes onto base with a face he knows. His nephew, Joseph, has come onto base and it leads to so much hurt for Simon at seeing his nephew and his family so close and yet so far.
