Summary
One evening in Beaumont-sur-Mer, told in two parts.
Josephine Chesterfield has no intention of dying, naturally. But if she's going to end up a beautiful corpse, she would rather do it somewhere agreeable.
She thinks Brigitte Desjardins' flat will do nicely.
Brigitte has dealt with gunshot wounds before. She knows how to stop the bleeding, how to keep someone conscious, and when a situation is beyond what can be managed with a first-aid kit and a steady hand.
Unfortunately, this isn't just someone. It's Josephine Chesterfield bleeding on her landing.
-or-
Josephine's been shot, and now that's Brigitte's problem.
Happy Whumptober!

Summary
A quiet evening in Beaumont-sur-Mer. Brigitte tries to finish a case file, Josephine struggles through a mid-century Belgian novel.
Then Josephine starts complaining about Penny.
Somewhere between a boy in eyeliner, Isabelle Huppert, and a very expensive Pre-Raphaelite catalogue, they come to realise that perhaps they are missing out...
(It's just two women talking in bed, really.)

Summary
When Josephine leaves Beaumont-sur-Mer with Penny and Thomas following the absurd events of the summer, there is no indication that she will return, and Brigitte is left to rebuild a life that is suddenly missing a load-bearing piece.
Now that she is gone, so too are the coffees. The dinners. The late-night calls. And the quiet, simple belief that Josephine would always be somewhere within reach, each summer, for the rest of her life.
What remains is work, routine, a half-restored townhouse and all the ordinary things that ought to be enough. Brigitte begins, piece by piece, to construct a future that does not depend on Josephine being there.
She has spent four years learning how to love Josephine without ever telling her or asking her to stay.
Letting her go is something else entirely.

Summary
Josephine Chesterfield hasn't had sex in a very, very long time.
Her body knows exactly what it wants. If only her mind was in agreement this would all be much, much simpler.
