When the Memorial Northern Research Center contacts Odile about a top secret opportunity to experiment with a new finding at their lab, she's more than intrigued. Her expertise in the neuroscience of color vision isn't exactly in high demand, after all, let alone for projects that require an NDA.
She's expecting the lab’s breakthrough to be some biological discovery, perhaps a new application of craft — not a physical source of perceivable color! And she definitely doesn't expect that source to be a strange living creature, reminiscent of both humans and sadnesses, yet entirely different from either.

When a newly-human Loop shows up at camp on the verge of heat, of course Odile agrees to help them through it. She doesn’t need to know the details of their existence to know that they’re pack, and Odile would do anything for her pack — much worse things than just providing heat companionship, a task which generally ranges from tolerable to quite enjoyable, and either way isn’t particularly difficult for an experienced alpha like herself.
She should’ve known it wouldn’t be so straightforward. If she’s learned anything in the months since the loops, it’s that nothing to do with Siffrin is ever as simple as it seems.

Apparently, our technician had seen similarly corrupted map segments on a different survey, and that had been caused by the alien remnants. So now the supervisors were suddenly very interested in a potential discovery of unmonitored alien remnants sites which their parent company DeltFall could exploit. And they didn’t want to lose any time in verifying this hypothesis.
Urgh. This could become really dirty really quickly. I hope they wouldn’t find anything.
