Summary
“This is a dream,” she heard herself say. She swallowed, nodding to herself, trying steadfast to keep the growing lump in her throat at bay. “It’s a dream.”
But Jax remained no matter how she blinked, how she pinched herself—her nails were digging crescent moons into her palms and still he was there before her, regarding her with wide eyes.
He laughed, though he wasn’t smiling. “Oh yeah?” He asked, “Yours, or mine?”

‘You’re a girl, right?’
His head snaps up. ‘Wh- no! Why would you say that? Don’t project your genderfreaky s*** onto me!’
There’s a long and deeply awkward pause.
‘You wanna try that again, a**hole?’

Summary
Jax’s usual is too bitter for her, even if she won’t admit it. Zooble whips up something better (and he has a little too much of it, but that’s neither here nor there).

Summary
It’s so out of the ordinary that Riley’s almost convinced themself it was a butt-dial, or something, when they hear a soft, shaky inhale from the other side of the phone.
Something’s wrong.
“What happened?” Riley demands, climbing out of bed and fumbling around in the dark for their clothes, phone pressed between their ear and their shoulder.
“I’m at the hospital.”
“Are you okay?” They ask.
“Lee tried to kill himself.”

Summary
The sickening weight of everything pressed in. And with shame washing away all other potential distractions or the ability to ignore it the way he always did, Jax did what he always hid from the others.
He drowned.
***
Alternatively, I wrangle Jax into a redemption arc as he semi-returns to the circus. Also, he's in the company of a certain programmer's dead wife.
