"They caught Luffy."
The words echo in Ace's head like a mantra, inescapable and horrifying. Three words that are worse than anything Impel Down had thrown at him so far, worse than the jeers and the torture, worse than the seastone exhaustion and the knowledge of his impending death.
Gramps says the words with a finality that tells Ace he is not going to do anything, that he's not even going to try and help Lu' even if he is the baby of the family, even if he doesn't deserve this - even if he wasn't born with cursed blood in his veins.
He wants to rage, wants to pull on the shackles until there's nothing left, shatter them into smithereens - he can't, his haki never got good enough to do more than the most basic protection, Marco had been right he had been relying on his devil fruit -
In Sabaody, Kuma is too slow to send Luffy away as well and the Strawhat Captain is slated for execution alongside Firefist Ace when news of his parentage breaks out. The babe looked stupidly small. Smaller than even Rocks' brat had been and Dadan had been one of the few who had been allowed to see him when he was a few months old. To this day she was unsure why Rocks had let her know of his existence. Sometimes she found herself wondering where he was, how he was doing. If his ma' was still alive or not.
And now Garp brought this on her head.
"You still owe me for God's Valley," the Marine grumbled, stealing her sake bottle and taking a deep swing. Funny, she had never seen Garp drinking before. Baterilla must have affected him more than any other battle ever had. More than watching Roger walk to his death.
"Never asked for your help. Coulda just left me there."
Or Dadan is a former Rocks pirate who decided to retire and live her life in peace on Dawn. Trust Garp to mess it all up.

Summary
