Rumi crawled forward shakily until she was sitting at the edge.
It was even more dizzying when she got up close. She clenched her eyes shut, refusing to look directly at the ground below. Your friends will never accept you, so what purpose do you have if you can’t fix yourself? You failed all those people. Somewhere in the back of her head, Rumi couldn’t tell if the voice was hers, or something else. It sounded like her. It didn’t matter though, because it was right. A tear finally fell down her cold cheek and landed on her hand. She whimpered softly.Or, Rumi runs from the Golden performance and the voices in her head get the better of her. Mira is just in time.

"Rumi," Mira said sharply. A flinch ran through Rumi, and she saw a guilty look on Mira's face. She'd never been the most patient in their group—that would be Rumi—and she could be snappish at the best of times—years of building a protective shell against harsh words during her childhood had seen to that—but she always meant well. Rumi knew she loved Rumi and Zoey to death and would never hurt them.
(Mira's wol-do came up, blade glimmering like the purest strands of starlight it was made of, glowing in the dimness of their surroundings. The look on her face was blazing, hard, etched with harsh lines, though the cracks beneath were flooded with sorrow and wounded shock and betrayal, because Rumi was a liar and she had lied and she had betrayed them—)
Rumi quickly shook her head out of the abyss of self-hatred and self-loathing she'd fallen into, trying to block out the image of Mira's wounded face as she pointed her weapon at Rumi.
