Something shifts in Lan Wangji’s face. He takes a deep breath, as if steading himself, and then asks, “Is this a kidnapping?”
“What?” Wei Wuxian cries. “No! Are you crazy? Of course not!” Kind of though, really, if Wei Wuxian thinks about it.
“My family is wealthy. My appearance makes that wealth evident. Am I being taken hostage to be held for ransom?” Lan Wangji holds himself very straight, the tension clear through his body.
“Aiya!” Wei Wuxian waves his hands in front of his face. “I promise you, this is not a kidnapping! There’s no ransom.”
“Then I am free to leave?” Lan Wangji demands.
Wei Wuxian is dead, but he isn’t ready to reincarnate. Instead, he gets a job transporting the newly dead to the underworld. It’s a fairly standard gig until one night when he ends up with a newly deceased passenger who is both the most handsome and most stubborn person he has ever met. Will he be able to convince Lan Wangji that they’re both dead? And why does he feel so drawn to the man?
