    Bookmarker's Notes

Unrequited wedding angst with a happy ending. It moves a bit quickly and makes some unusual references, but I'm a big fan of Revali's characterization here. The ways in which his hard-headedness and soft-heartedness manifest feel like realistic responses to the weird Champion love triangle he's in with Zelda, Mipha, and Link.

    Favorite Lines:

It must be burning him up. He only pushed himself so far because he had the highest standards for himself, higher than the ones he set for anyone else. Failure of any kind was his bane… and unrequited love…

...the couple would go off alone, swimming together up the waterfalls of Mikau Lake and traveling until they reached Lulu Lake.

These lakes, Zelda knew, were named after a famous pair of Zora lovers - in some legends, they had a tragic ending, but in others, they lived happily ever after.

    Bookmarker's Notes

With fifty ultra-short prompts, this fic is a bit all over the place, but I love how the author includes so many side characters - the relationships between them feel fleshed out even when they only show up for a sentence or two.

    Favorite Line:

Most of the other girls thought that Ferb was easily the more attractive of the two, with his height and stoicism and deep British accent. So none of them could quite understand why their leader was so desperate for Phineas to notice her (though that was nothing compared to Ginger, for goodness' sake).

    Bookmarker's Notes

This one gets off to a slow start but the second half hits like a truck. Just absolutely devastating angst.

Considering the theme of loss that's present in Miles' relationship with Gwen, the prose here feels appropriately numb and detached. It has a faded quality, like an old photograph, as though after the vibrance of Into the Spider-Verse, Miles' point-of-view is becoming duller and duller. And who can blame him? In a way, it's like he peaked at 15 years old, and there's nothing he could have done about it. Imagine going back to normal, everyday life (or even not-so-normal superhero life) with the knowledge that there's a huge multiverse of alternate dimensions with alternate versions of you. And slowly realizing over the course of a decade that you won't ever get to experience it again.

    Favorite Line:

Miles doesn't remember the first day he didn't write to Gwen. He'd meant to, he was sure. There just might not have been anything interesting to say. Maybe he'd fallen asleep binging a show or something. He wrote her the next day and apologized, as if she could read the words in real time. As if she'd be offended.

It occurred to Miles around that time that all his drawings were of a high-school girl. He stopped telling his coworkers he could draw.

    Bookmarker's Notes

This is an adorable slice-of-life fic. Very nostalgic and wistful and quaint, it's almost like an early-2000s small-town period piece. The spirit of Calvin's imagination is subtly present here as well - even now, it's unclear whether he believes his relationship with Hobbes is fantasy or reality.

    Favorites Lines:

“Hey, Mr. Bun. Hobbes said to say ‘hi’ if I saw you.”

“I’ll ping Mom.” He pulled out his phone and sent a quick text to his mother.
    “Not your father?”
“Oh, please. Dad will take a cell phone when they force it into his cold, dead hands.
