The words hung on the air for a moment. Regina took them in, swallowed them like an overgrown pill. She looked over Emma, the way her loose blonde curls fell over the shoulders which had been turned towards her in full attention.‘And, of course, I’m sheriff.’ She smiled, flexing the badge.
When the Mayor opened her mouth to reply, her words were stolen. She blinked back tears, opening and closing her mouth, a fish gasping for air having been flung from the comfort of water, of hatred.
Emma started the car again and the trance was broken. Unable to look upon the Saviour any more, Regina stared out of the window as the town flew by. Her mind still couldn’t process what had been said. Maybe this was how Emma would hold her head down, Regina thought, the sickness being her guilt, the firm hand being revolting kindness.
Regina Mills is at a loss. Her curse has been a success, and yet she can't help but feel empty. Her son is drifting from her, no one gives her the time of day. She doesn't know how to live anymore, and Emma Swan makes it her duty to teach her how, much to her (apparent) dismay.

She looks at the box.
She doesn’t remember choosing it.
Or when Henry stopped liking that brand.
They’re small things. Almost ridiculous.
The mysterious orange bottle of pills with her name on it in the cabinet.
Her planner: Tuesdays and Fridays — appointment with Dr. Hopper. In red, circled twice: DON’T MISS IT.
Strange. Weren’t Henry’s appointments on Thursdays?
And the new sheriff’s eyes widen every time Regina greets her.
The whole town seems to know something she doesn’t.
As if they know more about Mayor Regina Mills than Regina herself.
