    Summary

There are men turning up dead in the woods, and Chief of Police Charlie Swan has a job to do—figure out what, or who, left the poor bastards torn up as they are. Chief of Police Charlie Swan is too old for this mess. Too old and too sick of this shit to pretend Forks is just a sleepy old rural town anymore. Between the gruesome corpses and the quiet, unsettling doctor Cullen who shows up like a statue in pressed slacks, lying through his teeth, Charlie’s got more questions than answers—and no one seems too keen on giving him either.

Charlie’s trying not to notice how his breath catches when the doc gets too close. He’s also trying not to notice how the bodies keep piling up, unsolved. Neither effort is going particularly well.

And if one more person tells him it was a bear, he’s going to shoot something. Probably not a bear.

    Summary

'Not your fault, Doc. I’ve always been a bad sleeper. Used to drive Renée crazy.’

‘I’m sure finding out your town was full of monsters didn’t help, though,’ Carlisle murmured. He was looking down at his hands, folded neatly on the table in front of him. As if he wanted to keep them in sight.

‘Carlisle,’ Charlie said, putting his pen down. ‘There’s someone sitting in that building over there, right now, selling addictive painkillers to anyone with enough cash. Monsters existed in my town a long time before you showed up. Besides, someone’s got to keep the deer population down.’

In which Carlisle grapples with shame, Charlie grapples with some very human monsters, and both of them grapple with the horror of having to take days off work.

    Summary

“You are easily the worst spy I’ve ever seen.” Mobei-Jun told Shang Qinghua snidely as he stepped through the portal that had just opened up in the cell.

“Oh, like you’re one to talk,” Shang Qinghua rolled his eyes.

The demon realm has been falling apart ever since Luo Binghe and Shen Qingqiu started their extended vacation— er, seclusion. Shang Qinghua and Mobei-Jun take it upon themselves to fix things, and get kidnapped in the process. They get kidnapped a lot, actually.

Mobei-Jun was (is) the image of what Shang Qinghua could never achieve: strength, respect, beauty.

As a human, Shang Qinghua was (is) flawed. As a writer, a creator, maker, he unintentionally spilled much about himself in his characters.

“As far as I can tell,” you say, “there is currently one person in here that could hope to know what the fuck that feels like, even just a little. He also has very beautiful feet, and he’s very good at killing things, which are like, my two biggest kinks.”
