Summary
Shane imagined, in that odd unaware state, that he would open his eyes and see either his mother or Ilya. He knew it simply depended on timing - who heard first, who drove faster, or simply who happened to be in the room when his eyes decided they were sick of being closed - but part of him truly hoped it was Ilya. He wanted nothing more than to reassure him, let him know that Shane was okay and that Ilya would not be left behind yet again.
OR
When Shane gets into a nearly fatal accident, he expects the first person he sees upon waking to be either Ilya or his mother.
He never expected to see Ilya's mother.
