Sonic knows that his tails are wrong, Tails had told him that himself. Knuckles surely knew from just a glance, but Maddie didn't.
Maddie didn't know.
Tails hadn't meant to lie. Really, he hadn't. But when Maddie gives him a way to pretend that his mutation is normal, he takes it. And he doesn't mean for things to spiral out of control, but they do.

(Just a heads up. This was partially inspired by an episode of Pokémon DP. Whoever figures it out is automatically awesome)
Tom is ready to get out of the hospital. He had to see his boys. He had to let them know how proud he was. But something was eating away at Tails. Mere seconds after he shouted the word at Tom when he came home, he looked like he just killed someone.
He just couldn’t figure out why the hell the man was smiling when he heard it.
