Goro Akechi is nothing if he is not stubborn and petty to a fault, and this has been true since the day he was turned. If he has not felt the need to break his stalemate with Akira Kurusu in nearly an entire century, through world wars and the rise and fall of empire and growing modernization, then he's certainly not going to break it over a vision so saccharine and false it makes him ill to even think about. Even now, months after that idiotic prophet of an elder god was dealt with and his patron properly sealed, and despite Akira's infuriating choice to use those experiences as fuel in their fights. Nothing has changed, and nothing will change.
And yet, the universe chooses, as it always does, to laugh in his face.
A clock he hadn't realized even existed is ticking down to its final seconds. A choice lays at the end. It is an easy one.
But "easy" does not mean "simple".

Weirdly, as Akira laid on the mat, he was still grinning up at him, his eyes gleaming with something that looked dangerously like quiet amusement.
“Look at that,” he said, voice so quiet that no one else could hear and yet still sounding taunting. “You finally did it.”
That little shit.
Goro wanted to step on him, press his foot down and rearrange his guts from the outside.
And the look on Akira's face seemed to suggest that he'd be perfectly alright with that.
Goro Akechi is determined to find out who broke Kamoshida's mind into submission (before he could). Akira Kurusu is determined not to let him look at anyone but himself too closely - Even if that means messing with his mind a little. In the most literal sense of the phrase.

Goro doesn’t even get a chance to complain before Kurusu is sliding an arm around his back and beneath his knees.
