The camera tracks Shane and Ilya as they race back up the ice. They cross the finish line in a blur of speed and round on Harris.“I don’t-,” Harris says, “It was so tight. Maybe we call it a draw?”
Ilya throws his arms up. “[Beep], is not a f-[beep]-ing draw, is-”
“Harris, what the [beep]?” Shane shouts, eyes wide. “What do-”
The two of them abruptly fall silent.
“Um, sorry, sorry.” Ilya shrugs.
Shane flushes. “Sorry, yeah, sorry Harris.”
“So I’m guessing,” says Harris, “you want a re-do?”
“Cannot be a tie,” Ilya says at the same time Shane says, “draws aren’t a real thing.”
Harris can’t help it. He bursts out laughing.

The plan is working. It’s all actually working. Well, except for the way Ilya insists on repeating that being publicly friends makes them officially friends with benefits now. Shane could do without that part. He did not give Ilya a ring to be demoted to friends with benefits.

Shane Hollander is a realtor who works with the Ottawa Centaurs to find properties for new players.
