“Sam,” Lara softly says. She takes in a deep breath, drops the tension building in her muscles, and reaches out to lay a hand on her friend’s shoulder. Sam lets her, to her great relief, and their eyes lock together. “You… Are you sure you’re alright?”
She doesn’t say anything. Not immediately. Sam holds her gaze without faltering, and Lara can see the spark of hope that flickers within that breathtaking stare. Fingertips brush against the back of Lara’s hand before Sam’s own moves in to rest against it. Lara can’t recall the last time she’s seen this woman at such a loss for words. Or if she ever even has.
“Can you,” Sam starts, inhales deeply, and drops her gaze for just a fraction of a second. “Can you make me another promise?”

She didn’t think Makoto was the kind of girl to be into roses and flower language, sure, because she’s just so proper and ladylike all the time (except for as Queen— ironically enough). But the enthused way she explains is just so fitting. She gets this bright cadence to her voice that reminds Ann of lilies or sunflowers and is so different from her usual stern, commanding alto.
“You’re actually really cute,” Ann says, watching the way Makoto turns the ring over in her hands.
… which is evidently the absolute wrong thing to say, because Makoto looks like she’s just been shot.

Summary
Makoto could only wordlessly stare, absolutely captivated by the view. Ann looked virtually perfect: gentle rays of the setting sun enriched the blue of her eyes, dyeing them auburn and evoking an ethereal aura around her already striking face. The concentration and mindfulness with which she handled the gift were truly alluring as if they had been rehearsed beforehand for one of her gigs.
Makoto was way in over her head, she realized with something akin to dread.~~~~~~~~
How absurd, this idea of them together. Ann is just an affectionate friend, there is nothing more going on, really. What, this blushing? It's completely natural and unrelated, it's just hot outside.

“Heard all about your adventures,” she says as she spits a little sand out in a way that’s somehow graceful. It’s a little insulting, frankly. Yang’s been trying to get rid of the stuff for ages. “Have fun?”
“Immensely. What’s that?”
Yang reaches for the box, knowing exactly what Blake’s going to do yet pouting exaggeratingly when Blake slips from her grasp, smiling secretively. “Wouldn’t you like to know? Maybe it’s not for you.”
“It’s for me,” Yang declares. “And that’s why I asked.”
Blake huffs. “Oh really? Come get it then.”
