Akers hasn't made any new connections or discoveries since the hydrogen line on the first day. In fact, he's pretty sure he's made more wrong guesses about signals than right ones. Bautista hates him, Carrie tolerates him at best, and Doppler is probably waiting to kick him off the team as soon as he can. But he can't get kicked off the team, he needs to stay with the meteorite, the only good thing in his life right now. So the least he can do, is do what he's best at - fetching coffee.
