Sean tugged on the leash again, trying to go forward as if he were following where Nathaniel had gestured, and Nathaniel pulled him back with a small sigh. "Sean, I said heel. Do you want me to send Jean and your new friend home?" he questioned, tone offering no debate, and Sean ducked his head as he obeyed, sinking back next to Nathaniel's feet. Then, Nathaniel looked back at Jean. "I'm sorry about him," he offered, very apologetically. "I've been training him, but he was practically feral when I got him, so this is honestly a large improvement—he was a rescue, you see."
"Oh, don't worry," Jean replied, as she reached to pour herself a drink, "I've been having much the same struggle trying to get Marion to follow any commands—cats are notoriously difficult to train, of course, but I assumed I would at least be able to manage the usual, simple directions." She shook her head. "Not much, yet, though I'm hopeful. He's still getting to know me, after all." Jean fell silent for a moment, tipping her chin up and acquiring a pensive expression. "Perhaps I ought to leave him with you for a little while, Mr Trapp. You have more experience than I do in the ways of giving orders."
