Summary
Fate has never been kind to the drones of the manor, especially with N, V, and J. Regardless, they have always persisted, and while difficult, this is the best period of their lives where they were at least somewhat free to be their own person.
Unfortunately, events beyond their control drag them out of their old home and transform them into something they never would've thought possible, thrown into a hell on earth they never asked to visit.
Can they wake from this nightmare in time and survive before it's too late

“Gustave!” Maelle sobs, trying to crawl backward with one arm while holding her leg with the other. “It b-bit me! I didn’t— I didn’t expect it to— I—”
He drops to his knees beside her. “Shh, hey, hey—Maelle, look at me. Breathe.”
“It hurts!” she cries. “It burns! It— something’s wrong!”
He follows her trembling fingers to the bite.
Two neat punctures. A small trickle of twin blood streams.
And the flesh around them is already swelling, bubbling up like rising dough under her skin. The whole lower half of her leg is tight and flushed, angry red veins spidering out from the site of the bite. He presses her foot gently, and she screams.

Summary
“Maelle?” Gustave calls. “What’s wrong?”
“Did you touch something slimy like Gustave did?” Sciel says, grinning at the man, who huffs. Five steps into their trek across the river, and Gustave had brushed something that made him yelp like a dog. It was, as it turns out, just an underwater plant.
“N-no, umm—” Maelle stammers. Her face feels hot all of a sudden; why is she sweating? Why is she so nervous? Is she afraid of her injury or them being mad at her? It’s impossible to tell with her anxiety. Perhaps it’s both.
She considers, just briefly, lying and acting like everything is okay. That she just slipped and it startled her. But with what is embedded in her foot, she knows it won’t come out on its own, and if she continues trying to walk, it’ll only drive it in deeper.
“I think I stepped on glass,” she tells them. “No— no, I *know* I stepped on glass.”
