Some people said he was more machine than man. Few knew how true that was.
AKA: In a universe where Palpatine turned Vader into a cyborg that must follow his commands, having no free will, Vader crashes while pursuing our iconic trio and Luke decides to mess around with the odd control panel on Vader’s back.
This works better than planned, when our trio are added as Vader’s new commanders, and now need to decide what to DO with him.
Meanwhile, Vader’s just tired and honestly doesn’t care at this point, but these bickering children are entertaining at least.
…What was that boy’s last name again?

Summary
There’s a lot Vader expected from his son (his son!) once he found out about him.
Whether the pride was begrudging or not, the child still managed to blow up the death star on what seemed to be his first time off Naboo, a feat that mirrored Vader’s own misadventures immediately after leaving Tatooine.
He wasn’t expecting the child to be absolutely unaware their family could shift into Dragons, and be accidentally left behind after ‘contracting an illness’ mid patrol through jungle.
Oh Luke.

Luke Skywalker has absolutely no idea why Darth Vader refuses to let anyone kill him.
The Rebels don't know either.
Han Solo starts a betting board to answer one simple question:
What is actually wrong with Darth Vader?
What begins as a joke snowballs into the Rebel Alliance's entirely unofficial—and alarmingly well-funded—Department of Vader Studies, where every strange encounter, Imperial order, bounty hunter mishap, and leaked memo is carefully analysed.
The theories range from "Luke is an endangered species" to "Boba Fett is his aggressively overprotective babysitter."
Meanwhile, Vader ominously becomes Emperor, Boba Fett discovers the joy of internet trolling, the HoloNet loses its collective mind, and the entire galaxy somehow invents thousands of increasingly ridiculous explanations for Vader's behaviour...
...while dismissing the real answer as far too absurd to be possible.
Or: the galaxy creates a conspiracy board so large it nearly discovers that Darth Vader is Luke Skywalker's father—then unanimously votes that theory is the stupidest one on the wall.

His palms itch with the urge to touch. To feel skin against his skin in a way that isn’t meant to hurt. He’s always getting hurt now, whether it’s normal wear and tear in battles or if he’s going toe to toe with Ventress again and gets a kick to the face. Anakin just wants touch that doesn’t hurt.

He notices the way that the general will lurk outside of the medbay, like a puppy kicked out of the dining hall, until the commander comes out. He notices the way that the general’s hands reach out, as if to touch and skim along whatever body part was hurt on his apprentice, only to retract at something she tells him.
