The demon's shock slowly turned into confusion. "What are you doing here?", she asked warily, looking around for something for a moment. "Who do you belong to?" Her eyes had obviously caught the gleaming cuffs on her wrists – that was the whole point of them, Zoey supposed. Okay, she was looking around for someone then.
"Uhm", Zoey hummed awkwardly, narrowing her eyes as she tried to figure out how best to answer that. Not the trader, she'd already been successfully sold. Not Jinu, he was just an in-between. She really didn't want to say Gwi-Ma and certainly couldn't say Celine. Finally she shrugged helplessly and said: "You, I think?" She flinched as the demon's brow furrowed further, her other eye also turning gold. "If your name is Rumi", Zoey added desperately, shrugging and trying her best at a smile. "Jinu sends his regards?"
Zoey is sold as a sex slave to a hermit demon who seems to have less than no interest in such an arrangement.

Double-checking her golden contact lenses in the mirror, Rumi fluffs out her hair—long and loose from its braid—so that it flows in waves behind her, a vision of violet cascading down the black velvet of her suit jacket. She tugs on her signature white butler gloves, straightens her lavender tie, and steps out of the back and onto the floor itself.
The bell dings, a signal for new cafe guests arriving in the waiting room.
Perfect timing.
Rumi grins sharply, schooling her features into classy neutrality, then glances through the window of the door to the waiting area, sees two freshly familiar women, and yelps.
Or: Rumi's balancing life as a university student by day and themed cafe butler by night when the fall semester starts, where she quickly finds herself partnering with two classmates—Zoey and Mira—for a group project. They're friendly and sweet, but there's just one small problem: they've taken to frequenting the exact cafe where Rumi works and unknowingly requesting her butler persona, Artemis, every single visit.

But if she can’t even tell us, there’s no way she’d be able to follow through with actually doing it. Even if we’d all feel so much better if she just smashed our faces into the ground.”
“Why can’t we just phrase it like that?” Zoey complained. “Hey, Rumi. You remember the most traumatic night of your life? Why don’t we just recreate it and have it end by you going apeshit on us so we can all move on?”
Or, Zoey and Mira find Rumi's demon intensely attractive and decide to ask her to invite it out while they play.

“Isn’t us making it another year special enough on its own?” Zoey sounded like she was about to cry.
Mira refused to look up from her work to check if she was.
“Zo, that isn’t what I meant.” Panic was edging Rumi’s voice. “I’m just tired of spending the entire day numb. I thought that maybe, this year, we could do something that isn’t just surviving.”
“What’s your idea?” Mira hoped that the molten anger in her stomach wasn’t burning her tone. She hated raising her voice or snapping at them – especially Rumi.
She had done enough of that to last several lifetimes.
Rumi adjusted herself in her chair, hissing as if she had forgotten about the needles until she moved. “I’d like to try a hook pull.”

Mira lifted her gaze, a slow smile curving her mouth. “We still have more to offer,” she said. “You wouldn’t want to miss the best part, would you?”
Zoey blinked, her pulse quickening. “What part?” She asked, the question trembling in the air.
Mira didn’t answer, not with words. Her hand drifted toward Rumi, fingertips brushing over the singer’s arm, her collarbone, tracing lazy lines that made Rumi’s breath hitch.
Zoey’s mouth went dry. The room felt warmer now, the air too thick to breathe.
Rumi closed her eyes, a playful smile ghosting across her lips. There was something in the way she leaned back, trusting, expectant, that made Zoey’s chest tighten. She wasn’t sure she could leave if they kept going.
“You were so good in the crowd,” Mira murmured, her eyes finding Zoey’s, holding them. “You gave us so much energy.” Her hand kept moving, deliberate. “Would you like to watch another performance?”
or: after being dragged to a concert for a band she’s never heard of, Zoey ends up alone when her friend bails and stumbles into the most life-changing night of her life.

“Too bright?” Zoey murmured, crouching beside the stroller. She gently angled the canopy down like she’d done it a hundred times before. “There. That should be better.”
Mira reached down and rubbed the baby’s back in slow circles, her dominant alpha scent going calm and steady, spilling out like a warm blanket. The baby hiccupped, stared up at them, and quieted under the combined presence; curious little fists reached for them, and Zoey cooed as she reached and let the little fingers curl around her own.
Rumi’s fingers tightened around the envelope. Her inner omega was frothing at the bars of her enclosure.
Heavens save her. Her inner omega was practically shouting now. Look at them. Look! Good alphas! Good with Pack! Good with Nest! Pups trust them! Pups feel safe! They are good for pups!
She was so busy staring that she didn’t notice the staff coordinator sidle up next to her until the woman whispered, “They’re naturals, huh?”
Rumi jolted, then laughed, a little breathless. Her patterns flashed bright purple at her embarrassment from being clocked so easily. “Yeah,” she said. “You have no idea.”
