Harry Potter was done.
All he had ever wanted was a little less time at the Dursleys and a little more in the wizarding world.
Technically, he got his wish after the Battle of the Department of Mysteries. But he had been picturing something along the lines of a quiet holiday in Italy, not a stint in Azkaban.
One year later, Harry is released, only to discover that Italy is still very much not on the table and, somehow, he’s being sent straight back to Privet Drive.
Fortunately for the plot, Sirius decides that witnessing the murder of a classmate clearly wasn’t enough trauma for one lifetime and drops a small, life-altering detail:
Harry’s parentage is not what he thought.
And if Harry can survive a basilisk, the Triwizard Tournament, and Umbridge, then surely he can survive a trip to New York to get himself emancipated.
Because what could possibly go wrong?
