Summary
Ryland Grace gets called in to look at Astrophage and make first contact with an alien species. To bad he made first contact a while ago, it's just that nobody knew. Getting to work on Project Hail Mary might just be the second best thing to ever happen to him as it means Grace reunites with someone he thought lost. Maybe. There still a sun to save.
But at least now he has Rocky back.

A series in which Rocky is human shaped but still very alien, he and Grace are in a non platonic QPR, and the sun is still dying. It's basically a humanoid Rocky AU canon divergence to the book and movie! Don't worry, it's a happy ending.

"What's happening, what's wrong, what can I do?" I'm frantic, pressed hard against the wall at the sight of him. He's only propped up on two legs, visibly trembling, surrounded by a hot puddle of liquid mercury. It's when he curls in and covers himself up more that I realise his ventral opening is spread wide and leaking, the obvious source of the fluid around him.
"Embarrass, embarrass, embarrass." The computer tone is flat as ever now that I'm close enough to hear it, but I can hear the distressed warbling in his actual voice. "Rocky not want friend Grace to see. But Rocky need help."

Grace is always asking me about my mate. “What was he was like when he was young? How did you both meet? What does he act like when I’m not around?” Slightly invasive, personal questions, all of which I find myself answering without hesitation.
I try to hold back my excitement. It becomes rather clear to me that “best friends” must mean something slightly different for humans.
