Summary
The late summer air was burning hot, it had not rained for almost three weeks and everything was bone dry, making it uncomfortable to breathe.
The letter had arrived the day before yesterday, calling her in for a formal meeting with the minister of the Forbidden and Unauthorized Spells and Hexes department.
From the moment the letter had arrived a weary feeling had washed over her and she had not been able to fully relax since.
She had arrived at the ministry at 9 p.m, half an hour early. A house elf named Vixy had led her to wait in a sterile room where the most significant furniture was a large grandfather clock standing in the corner, ticking loudly.
She had never enjoyed visiting the ministry, for an entourage of reasons, but perhaps most noteworthy, because it was full of ambitious men who wanted nothing else but her swift downfall.
She was too loud for a woman, it damaged their fragile egos, she made them feel inadequate.

He had sent the letter eight days prior and he did not regret his decision.
It had been short and polite—straight to the point—avoiding any emotional weight that he might have wanted to express. It had been professional, one might say.
When the owl returned a week later with a roll of parchment tied to her foot, Albus had let it sit on the messy kitchen table, untouched for hours. He had stared at it while pouring himself whisky, until the liquid courage made him open it.
On it were only a few words, elegantly scribbled in black ink:
I shall gladly accept your invitation.

After plenty of disagreements with the ministry of magic, Albus Dumbledore has been fired from Hogwarts. Miserable in his new situation he decides to write a very important dinner invitation.
