Tommy remembers those pretty brown curls and the bright blue eyes that looked through him. Saw him. Smiled at him. He thought he would never see them again. But there he was.
“To…mmy…” Will mumbled weakly, his voice barely more than a whisper as Tommy stared at him with wide, disbelieving eyes.
Tommy’s heart raced as he reached out, gently caressing Will’s cheek as Will’s eyes fluttered closed again, blood loss getting to him.
Tommy knew he had to act quickly.

Bubba huffed as he took heavy steps along the familiar path. He felt a hand slip into his own.
He turned, looking down, and saw Will beside him, his gaze facing the setting sun. For a moment, neither of them said anything. They simply stood there together, watching the fading light.
Will glanced back at the building of the orphanage before looking at Bubba. “Shall we head home, Bubba?”
Bubba stared at him for a moment before turning back toward the road. Then he turned and started walking back in.
Will stayed with him and he didn't stop holding Bubba's hand even inside.
