“You're awful,” Phainon whispered, breath hitching when Mydei rocked his hips back against him.
“You're oblivious,” Mydei pointed out with a shrug, “But here I am, presenting myself to you, and you'd rather delay for a conversation.” He wet his lips, humming quietly, “Is this not enough recompense for my perceived slight?”
“You're insufferable,” Phainon bit back in turn, shaking his head in disbelief.
“Go on, then,” Mydei goaded, huffing, “Show me why I should regret it.”
Phainon has been agonizing over his tumultuous relationship with his new roommate for weeks, now. His roommate-- who cooks for him, does his laundry, and scolds him for his unhealthy habits. Why does he care so much, anyways?

“Iʼd hate to be the only one enjoying this.” He brushed a thumb along the edge of one red line that crossed Mydei’s hip. “Let me take care of you too.”
Mydei’s eyes darkened. He caught Phainon’s wrist and guided it lightly along the path that ran down his own stomach.
“Follow the red lines. They’ll show you.”
Phainon settled his gaze again on the lines that had become so familiar now. Then, he eased Mydei back against the pillows and began the descent.

“I think I evened the score a bit while you were out, you know,” Phainon calls over his shoulder.
Still no response from Mydei, only the sound of corrupted flesh tearing. Phainon supposes that in itself is response enough. He yanks his sword from the neck of his last opponent and stands, trying to catch his breath. Yet his uneasiness lingers still, rising thickly into his throat.
The hairs on the back of his neck rise as his instincts scream at him to move. Corruption surges towards him from behind, and he tightens his hand on the hilt of his sword once more, whirling on his attacker—
—and he stabs Mydei straight through the upper chest, just beneath his collarbone.Phainon and Mydei investigate a village drowned by the black tide. When Mydei falls, something else gets back up.
