They’re good pals, Arthur won’t grow suspicious of the tavern cover, and he can help Merlin with his super sneaky sorcery bullshit. It’d be perfect!

He makes himself a media darling and realizes, after everything that can go wrong with that does, that he needs to find Merlin, since Merlin doesn't seem interested in finding him first. He tracks Merlin down, only to learn Merlin was in a car accident and is permanently disabled.)

Ignoring Kilgharrah’s protests about the impossibility of what he aimed to do, Merlin let all his power loose, becoming one with the fabric of the world and the magic he was born of. After following the bond he shared with Arthur through the winding paths of time, he finally emerged a decade into the past, having successfully seized a second chance to get this whole destiny thing right. Unfortunately, he would have to win Arthur’s trust all over again, seeing as Merlin was alone in remembering anything of the future he was hoping to change. Or…was he?
