Summary
Still reeling from his feelings after their ride in the step-litter, Xie Lian thought spending some time together in Puqi Village would help ease the tension between both of them. Things took a turn, however, after a seemingly harmless walk through the forest together.
Hua Cheng was acting strange; refusing to elaborate as Xie Lian's worries only grew.
“It was a remnant.” Hua Cheng eventually said.
“Of what?” Xie Lian’s mind raced. What could he do? He knew some odd antidotes from being poisoned over the centuries. They would probably find all they needed in Ghost City, wouldn’t they?
“The flower yao.”
His mind blanked.
“What?”
“Those from the Land of Tender,” Hua Cheng said filled with resignation. "Gege, please. Don't come any closer."

Xie Lian immediately thought of a playful smile, dark eye and wild unbound hair. Thought of crimson robes, a ribbon tight around a finger, and an unending patience as he tilted his head and listened and listened.
Just a few days−and how he missed Hua Cheng already. Ever since the other had come to his life, it somehow made everything easier. Nothing in Xie Lian’s routine particularly changed, despite his ascension. Except for missions being added in the mix, his terrible luck and simple ambitions remained.
And yet, somehow, the weight of all of them seemed like such a doable and imaginary thing.
But Hua Cheng had a beloved.
(or: Xie Lian rescues a water spirit, gets advice and a nudge, and gets beyond what he could have imagined.)

A-Yuan has observed Hanguang-jun tied his formal forehead ribbons every morning, and he decides that the rabbits shouldn't be left out of the Gusu Lan sect. He steals a handful of white medicinal bandages and spends the morning trying to tie sect ribbons around the ears of every rabbit he can catch. When Lan Wangji returns from his duties, he finds a garden full of confused, bandaged rabbits and a toddler who proudly explains that they are now "Little Hanguang-juns."
