Summary
Ever since Tony made the mistake of implying he only started paying attention to his son, Peter, because of his powers, the two of them had an unspoken rule that they did not talk about powers or Spider-Man.
At first, this rule worked quite well for Tony. It meant he got to know his son, and his son, in turn, got the reassurance that Tony did not only care about him because of his enhancements.
But the closer they got, the harder it was to ignore this giant part of Peter's life. Especially when Tony started to notice all the downsides to having superpowers. All he wanted was for his son to be comfortable, and from what he could see, his powers were making him a little miserable at times.

It's an event specifically designed for fathers and their sons, which is something Peter doesn't have, and something he will never be.
