Summary
“I lodged the forms online straight after the draft, so I’m not sure why there’s an issue. It’s clear that Rozanov is Shane’s enemy.”
“Rival, Mom. He’s not my enemy, he’s just — a rival.”
It’s not like soulmates, where your mark gives you an identifying clue of who the person is so there’s no doubt when you make it official. The two marks together form some kind of cohesive picture; two halves of a whole. They’re a lot smaller than they appear in movies, that’s what surprised Shane. The mark appears around the time you become acquainted with your soulmate, whatever that means. He found his tiny hockey stick mark on his inner elbow the day after the draft picks. He hasn’t told his Mom yet that his soulmate is hockey itself, but it wouldn’t be a surprise to anyone.
But the thing is. Every action must have an equal and opposite reaction. If you have a soulmate, you must have a rival. It’s some kind of karmic balance in the universe that no one can really explain.

Summary
After the tuna melt meltdown, Shane meets Rose Landry, has several deeply inconvenient revelations, and decides to do the only sensible thing: win Ilya back with sincerity, logistics, and a frankly alarming amount of emotional effort.
Ilya, meanwhile, mistakes every tender gesture for the kind prelude to an inevitable goodbye.
Or: Shane is living in a romcom. Ilya is living in a Russian tragedy.

When Shane Hollander Killed Ilya Rozanov [PODFIC] by Nosegay (eachflowersathought)

Summary
Shane wonders if Ilya saw his text to keep the costume on. Ilya had taken it off, but Shane didn't see where it had ended up. Shane was at least glad that Ilya had put something comfortable on. He was probably in a hospital gown or something now, but it still mattered that he was comfortable in some way before he lost consciousness.
Shane almost wishes Ilya had been wearing one of his hoodies so Ilya wasn't so alone in the bathroom. Maybe that would've made a difference. Maybe Shane should've left more of his clothes in Ottawa. If Shane left more of his clothes behind, Ilya would not have killed himself.
Or: Shane Hollander can't convince himself that Ilya is alive.

Summary
Ilya Rozanov is many things—a pain in Shane Hollander’s ass, hockey’s biggest playboy, a better chirper in his second language than most people are in their first, the only player who can challenge Shane for the title of “best of his generation.” But when Shane and Ilya get stuck next to each other on a long-delayed flight to the MLH Awards, Shane realizes something else about him: Ilya Rozanov is hot.
***
Shane and Ilya never hooked up at the CCM shoot. Seven years later, they end up on the same flight from New York City to Las Vegas.

A reading of In the Eye of the Beholder by xianvar
Still, Ilya can’t help but click back into that stream of the game they’d just played against Ottawa. The streamer’s mic is just as shitty as the footage, but his voice has a soothing quality, and Ilya almost lets that lull him into a strange sort of calm as he pulls his fries from the oven.
Almost.
Because then the broadcast shows this nifty little steal Ilya made earlier, and sh24_hockey stops on that frame. “Sloppy play from Rozanov here,” he announces through the staticky background noise, which – what?
Being at the top of the league is a lonely endeavour – until Ilya finds an annoying streamer with astonishing insights, who is strangely familiar…
