Summary
This fic owes its inspiration to Set that crown on the ground by Yeats in which rather than being accepted into the Jin sect as a son after the Sunshot campaign, Meng Yao is given a pouch of money and a letter from Jin Guangshan inviting him to take up the leadership of the Moling Meng sect, under the patronage of the Jin sect.
It’s obvious in the fic that this is just a way of getting rid of Meng Yao, without having to legitimize him. Meng Yao is insulted and accepts Lan Xichen’s offer to bring him into the Lan sect instead. But I thought, “Honestly that’s a pretty sweet deal. I would like to see what a Moling Meng sect would be like.” So this fic is an attempt at imagining what might have happened if Meng Yao had accepted.
Thank you to JMO2244 for finding Yeats' fic for me :) (Which it turns out I did not remember as well as I thought!)

Summary
There's only one thing in life Meng Yao was always sure about: he loves Lan Xichen from the deepest of his heart, and Lan Xichen loves him back.
They have their ups and downs, especially due to their Nie Mingjue's irascible nature, but they always made it work. The proof is that the three of them have been married for two years and nobody asked for a divorce. Yet.
There's no reason why Meng Yao should ask for one.
Unless it was for Lan Xichen's sake.
Lan Xichen, who got shot in the head and woke up with no memory of Meng Yao.
Lan Xichen, who smiles at Nie Mingue as if he had hung up the moon but stares blankly at Meng Yao.
Lan Xichen, who seems way happier and relaxed now than he was when he was caught in the middle of their love.
For Lan Xichen, Meng Yao will renounce the only person who always made him feel loved and appreciated: Lan Xichen.Written for the 2026 MDZS Big Bang
