Summary
"Have a nice life, Rumi," Zoey says ultimately. "Your five minutes are over."
Rumi feared it might come to this. She didn't really deserve anything better. Still, she pulls the final trick up her sleeve out from the pocket of her jeans. The box is velvet beneath her finger tips. She takes one knee in the center of Zoey's kitchen and flips the top to reveal the diamond ring sitting in a silk bed.
"Oh you've gotta be fucking kidding me," Zoey breathes in absolute shock. "Rumi, stand up. Right now."
"Zoey—" Rumi swallows against the lump in her throat. "I know—I know you really, really don't like me. And I—And I get that but if you won't forgive me at least let me do this for you—"
"Rumi, I'm so serious. Stand up! What are you doing? Is that a ring real?" Zoey's voice pitches high enough to ring just on the edge of unpleasant but still Rumi remains steadfast.
"Will you marry me before I deploy?" Rumi rushes out in a tremulous breath.

This was typically the part where Rumi would be expected to introduce herself, but she didn't seem to give a flying fuck about what was expected of her if the way she still just stared even as Celine cleared her throat pointedly said anything.

"Hey, we got you something from the store last night."
Rumi squinted between them and the bag. "Why."
"Because as much as you don't seem to like us, we like you just fine."

"Well, come on. Aren't you going to bite somebody with those big sharp teeth of yours?" Mira prompted again with a raised brow, shaking Zoey's arm slightly, as if genuinely trying to entice Rumi to take a bite.
Instead of taking the proffered bait, Rumi turned her head away with a strong air of ‘well now I don't want to.'
"Thought so." Mira drawled, unimpressed. "Now how about you let us help you inside?"

Summary
Rumi is the light in the lives of both Zoey and Mira. She is their little warrior, the child they fought hard to get and even though she can't speak, she loves everyone deeply. The three of them are slowly but surely learning how to be a family, and for a long time, that seemed enough. But one day, the three of them met... Rumi. A lonely but talented street artist who turns Zoey's and Mira's world upside down. In one short but magical meeting, this weird Rumi managed to give the two women something they didn't know how to obtain: their sweet child voice back.
After that, throughout many seasons and brief encounters, the enigmatic Rumi keeps meeting Zoey and Mira in musical situations. The three of them start to slowly build a trusting relationship which after a long time, turns into love. However, Rumi is a very troubled soul and her life has been filled with so much pain and disappointment that she cannot allow herself to simply enjoy life and discover who she really is beyond what the cruel world has made her.
This is a story of music, trust and hurt, in which everyone will discover the simple ways in which one can love a Rumi.

“Oh my god.” Zoey shoveled it into her mouth with reckless abandon, alternating between chopsticks and spoons. “Oh my god.”
“It’s not that good. You’re lying.” Mira leaned in close to the camera, possibly to get a better look at the food in Zoey’s bowl.
Zoey looked at Mira wide-eyed. “Mira, it’s—oh my god. This is the greed the Bible warned me about.”
“You’ve never read the Bible,” snarked Mira.
“I just—the chef is gorgeous, Mira! And her food is—” Zoey lost her words, then she shook her head to reset her brain. “Babe,” said Zoey seriously, leveling her gaze at her girlfriend, “I’ve discovered the divine intervention that’s gonna get you to this place.”
Mira’s jaw dropped open. “Why didn’t you show me the hot chef?”
“Because my girlfriend is Aphrodite and the chef is Venus and my fucking brain exploded because I couldn’t put together a single thought when not one but two hot women were staring at me at the same time!” wailed Zoey, for her steak was too juicy and her lobster too buttery. “Besides, if you saw the hot chef that would be one less excuse to come eat here!”

The words tumbled out of her gracelessly, but so so sweetly. She waited, and all the while, that little balloon grew and grew, the plastic skin of it stretching and thinning with every second before—
“You too,” Celine said back.
‘Pop.’
“Celine,” Rumi tried again, voice shaking as tears she didn’t even know she still had left to shed began to drip down her left cheek. “Celine, I said I love you.”
