@Sparcina shared this prompt: Post-TFATWS, Zemo starts writing erotica from his cell and becomes famous under his pen name. Sam, who's heard about these books from Sarah, who's a huge fan, gifts one to Bucky as a joke. Bucky means to ignore the book until it spontaneously catches on fire, but after one night too many of not being able to sleep, he picks it up out of boredom... and finds himself getting reacquainted with his sexuality (which he's been ignoring for years) via 'this very mysterious author'.
Bucky's pretty stupid, but this really takes the cake.

Zemo never thought he'd get Hanahaki disease. It feels like a cruel joke. Not only that he's fallen in love with a man he used to view as an enemy, but that the love is killing him much more effectively than any fight ever has.
When he makes a frantic plea to the Wakandans - to allow him to die with dignity off the Raft for all the intel he has on Hydra networks - he doesn't expect them to tell Bucky of his condition. Even less does he expect that Bucky is willing to give 'touch mitigation' a go in a bid to keep the baron alive long enough to take down said networks. -

The idea of confessing to James is tempting in the same way that the idea of letting him put a gun to his head was. The exquisite vulnerability that Zemo would balk at coming from anyone else, feels like a balsam to his soul when it’s James wielding it.
Zemo would, without a moment’s doubt, let James hold his throat in the unforgiving grip of his mechanical hand and never protest, or break eye contact, for as long as the touch lasted.
If James wanted the world, either to save it or to destroy it, Zemo would gladly arrange to have it delivered to his grasp, with no expectation of reward.Series

Summary
Bucky may be unsure of a great many things these days, but he knew only too well how Zemo could make his life easier - if he allowed it. Not all activation words clouded his mind equally. Not all protocols wiped clean the slate of his initial personality.
Not all the hooks in his mind transformed him into a weapon.Alternatively: Hunting down Hydra alongside Zemo is a lot easier for Bucky than dealing with the tension between them. The empty gun in Zemo's mirror cabinet changes things.
